Is it possible to gain weight while in calorie limit?

Hello,
I have noticed that even if I eat within my calorie allotment, I still manage to put small amounts of weight on (or not lose weight) if my diet is made up predominantly of carbs.

Is that possible? I am wondering whether it is healthy to have a minimized carb diet?

How often are you weighing yourself?
How often are you "gaining" weight from this?

Without seeing your diary, it is difficult to determine. I'm a runner, and my definition of "predominantly carbs" is probably different than yours. But, in my experience, it doesn't matter one bit where the calories came from. Just an FYI, lots of processed food isn't as precise with calorie counts as one would assume - I think the allowed deviation is somewhere around 20ish %. That could be your problem, or maybe water retention, or any of the other hundreds of variables. Your body needs carbs for energy, or else it will fuel with protein/fat, and I'm pretty sure a diet that revolves around those two is neither sustainable nor healthy.

You might be retaining water... I hear some people who are sensitive to gluten can have that happen... Can also happen from eating alot of salt I think.

Or if the weight is staying on you might be underestimating your calories and eating more than you should.

Mmmm. Didn't think of it that way.

I will try and be extra vigilant for the next week and see how it fares.

    Thanks everyone.
