hello

I am new. Over the last 8 months i have really let myself go to the point i went from 144 to 198. I have been really depressed by it. I am now ready to get on track. My biggest problem is i work 3rd shift and i snack all the time. I am a picky about food if it dont taste good i wont eat it which is normally junk food that taste so good. I really want to change becaue the weight is messing with my health and i can tell the difference in my well being. Any suggestions. I need alot of support.

Some of the best tasting food is the food I make myself (in my opinion)! Have you considered bringing all of your meals and snacks to work with you? Yes it takes time to prepare, but you can also cook in bulk and store it in Tupperware. This will also save you $$$ in the long run, considering that the price for snacks and junk food adds up (in more ways than one).
  • Hey! I actually have had the same problem with weight gain, and it's really depressing. in the last 3 weeks after starting mfp i have lost 8lb. having a 3rd shift will make it harder for sure, but try to get atleast 7 hours of sleep everyday! i have noticed that exercise is my key, i usually exercise when i wake up, which actually helps with metabolism. AND it makes me feel so good. also drinking ATLEAST 8 cups of water a day is good. :)

about the snacking. i actually had a problem with that also. when i still lived with my parents i used to snack on sweets and 'good tasting' stuff. my mom always complained, so when i moved out and didn't have a mom to complain about it, i bought yummy stuff and oh, i regret that so much! anyway, now i don't snack too often. and if i do its fruits or veggies, I LOVE CARROTS! :)

The snacking will be hard to stop, but if you have motivation enough than it will work, pack some yummy fruits with you to work and a healthy meal!!

For me, when i started losing weight it motivated me even more, and even though i sometimes slip with the eating, i try to exercise DAILY! even walking for half an hour is good. everyday shouldn't be too hard, just start with walking, being outside also feels good! If you want motivation, you can add me as a friend and follow what i eat.

I really hope you succeed! it WILL make you feel a lot better, even losing a few pounds! :)

OH, and the first month is the hardest, but after that it will become a habit and easier. and learning to eat new healthy foods is hard also, but you will learn to like them eventually (i am trying to teach that to my boyfriend who eats soooo unhealthy.) :D GOOD LUCK!

I started at the same weight as you almost 5 weeks ago, and through patience, hard work, and consistent exercise, I've dropped 15 pounds. I know my weight loss is going to slow down.

I'm more excited that I am regularly exercising and feeling better and healthier because I'm putting good food in my body. I've worked night shift before, I snacked on almonds and drank Gatorade. The Gatorade made me feel more alert and I ate less because I wasn't tired and mindlessly eating to stay awake.
