Why do you exercise?

I see a lot of people on here go on about whether you need to exercise to lose weight, why eat back exercise calories? Or they feel guilty if they miss a day, or don't burn 1000s of calories in a session. While inactivity plays a big part in obesity, especially I believe in children, it does come down to eating too much food. So to lose weight, eat less than you need too. Easy. But then some people would ask why exercise? Well I believe there are a tone of non weight related reasons to exercise . Too move more. To get out and have fun.

My reasons.
Aikido - I have just started it as my 6 year old started last year. I am an old martial artist, who hasn't trained in anything since I was around 22. So 10 years. I love been in the dojo and on the mat. It's testing me mentally. It's social. I have just started helping with the kids. So I can do it with my family. Burns calories, but not loads.

Walking, running.- I love getting out in the fresh air and exploring my neighbourhood . This is usually me time, but my husband and kids can and sometimes join me. I do burn a bit too.

Strength training - I enjoy working out what to do, writing and reading for my program. I like it when I increase my weights. I like that I am stronger than some of the bigger girls and some guys at work. I like that if my girls get tired I can pick them up and carry them. My husband has a bad back, I can help him there. I can carry the groceries from the shopping centre down the road and up the stairs.

I exercise for fun, strength, fitness. The fitter I get the more active I am. Bonus. Why do others exercise?

I am writing this sitting on my couch , totally un-motivated and tired. I worked late last night and will tonight. So no weights, but no guilt. I will lift the hell out of things at work tonight lol

I started this weight loss with the primary goal of being fitter, ie. able to do more without running out of breath and collapsing in a heap, loosing weight whilst important wasn't the #1 goal for me.

I like being active, I love the endorphins that you get from exercise, helps me to relax and unwind and keeps me in a good mood all day.

I like the extra food that you can eat when you do cardio and still loose weight. eg. Yesterday I had what I would consider a splurge and had beer battered hot chips as well as breakfast/lunch/dinner and was still under my calorie goals.

I like doing weights because weights helps shape my body in a way that cardio never will.

I was enjoying being outside too, before the cold weather started.

I love the real sense of achievement that you get as each week you run that little bit further, swim a bit faster, cycle a bit longer, lift a little more, etc.

Finally and the most important reason of all, I love knowing that I will be fit enough to look after my children and provide a solid example for them to follow.

    Some of my reasons:
    * I hate my big fat *kitten*
    * I love being alive and would prefer to be so longer rather than shorter
    * 'tis better to cuss out the bottom of the pool than one's co-worker
    * I like that "I'm such a good girl because I worked out this morning" feeling-- which stays with me most of the work day
    * it's the best time to listen to Radio Lab Shorts and This American life on podcast

I exercise to get the results I want.. As vein as I might sound, I'm going to be honest, it's mostly about how I look and feel. I want that feeling where I can be comfortable wearing absolutely anything and not have a care in the world. I want people to look at me and think I'm hot, and for myself to think I'm hot... Plus the feeling of working out feels good at the end as I know there are health benefits. I want to also live a happy and healthy life. Another big thing for me is that I exercise to eat more.. I love food and it's awesome when I can exercise and not feel guilty about eating more!!
