How do I lose the spare tire?

Hi all -

I know you can't spot train to make a certain area of your body look good, but I have been working out alot in recent months and have noticed positive changes everywhere on my body... except my gut. I kind of have that spare tire thing going on and no matter how much I exercise, everything else seems to slim down BUT that area. I've cut out the soda and tried to lay off on the booze and carbs because I know they can contribute to the gut. What can I do to help move this process along? I feel like a dad with a beer gut here!

I used to carry all of my weight in my belly. Lifting and diet are what got rid of my gut. Especially sugar! Cutting down on sugar really made a huge difference.

You just need to get your body fat% even lower. After a good four months of calorie restriction and 6-day a week exercise, I have only recently begun noticing changes to my belly. The fat in my waist, hip and thigh was gone within the first couple of months. My body seems to begin accessing belly fat at the same time it taps the subcutaneous (under skin) one.

Lose more weight, be more patient.

It's still just excess body fat. Most people find that weight around their midsection is the last to go and the hardest to lose. Just keep at it... a good diet with balanced macros and a good, well rounded exercise program. That, plus a lot of patience.

I've been working on what's left of mine for about a month now. I cut down sugar and sat fat to ~20g/day and I'm finally feeling "tight" around that area. You really gotta discipline yourself to stay away from junk/restaurants because the bloat will impede your progress. It's gonna take time and dedication on the "inside" work (ab workouts) and "outside" work (eating better, cutting fat). I'm not sure at what BF% women see ab definition, but I think for guys it's around 10-15%, so maybe 20%ish - YMMV.

How big were you to begin with? Is it possible that its loose skin vs fat?

I would suggest lifting weights. It's really helped with my stomach fat.
