OK, so this Sunday I have to fly out to Switzerland for a one week course in Valbella (love the way the spell-checker comes up with Valhalla!). I'm spending five days in a hotel with buffets, evening meals, beer, and let's not forget the chocolate!

It's a diet-minefield!

My plan, such as it is is like this:

1. Stop logging for the duration - there's no point. Everything I eat will have been prepared and plated by someone else
2. Eat as healthily as possible. After five months on MFP i should know what's good, and what's not
3. No alcohol
4. Be particularly careful about portion sizes.

Any advice gratefully received.

I heard of a good trick for this. If you'r goal is 1700 calories a day, put 17 dollars (or Euros or whatever) in one pocket. Each time you eat 100-worth of calories, transfer one bill to the other pocket (two glasses of wine = 3 bills, e.g.). When you run out of money, stop consuming calories. Have soda water with lemon or fresh vegetables, for instance.

We spent 3 weeks in Germany and I was sure I'd come back 10 lbs heavier but I found the food to be pretty healthy most of the time. I used portion control and we did a lot of walking. I'm not a drinker so that wasn't an issue but I actually came home weighing a pound less! Use all the good things you've learned and I'm sure you'll do fine. Unless you pig out horribly you can't gain that much in a week anyway.

Thanks! I like the idea of transferring the notes/coins/whatever - it'll help keep me on track!
