weird water retention

Ok so My wife has got me to cut my sugar and my sodium intake, which is where i suffer the most. But i have a problem. Everytime i cut these areas, like quit drinking so much pepsi then my body starts to retain water. I know that it should retain it if i have to much, but my system doesn't seem to work that way. Does anyone else have this issue? If so what can i do to cut my sugar and sodium intake without worrying about retaining water.

Drink at least 8 - 10 glasses of water every day & increase your veggies.0

If only it were that easy. Like I said my body is different. drinking that much water a day has me at the hospital for pain because the swelling has gotten to bad. If i cut my pepsi intake and replace it with ion4 powerade then that seems to help some. Eating veggies is a bit of a lost cause for me, as i am anemic(been anemic all my life, docs don't know why).0
