27 weeks pregnant

Hello everyone. I really havnt been on much since I found out I was pregnant. Just turned 27 weeks yesterday. So far I have put on 18 lbs. I never had nausea or anything so I didnt lose any at first either. Is 18 lbs a lot or ok? I'm now in my 3rd tri. I need to really watch what I eat but its so hard right now :( I know you gain the most in this Tri. This is our first baby and she's so worth it all, but I want to remain healthy for us both. What do you all think?

I'd say maybe talk to your doctor to see if 18lbs is a lot or ok?? I know I'm a guy, but that sounds like a question for a doctor...

My aplogies if I came across the wrong way with my first response.....
  • I had a baby almost a year ago (time sure does fly) and I didn't really start losing all of the fluids till about January. I actually gained 15 pounds in the first 6 weeks all because of fluids. Working out after baby will definitely help deplete your body of all the fluids fast. Sweat it out lol :)

It has been a long time since I had a baby.... 22 years.

Congrats on the soon to be new addition.

I gained 25 pounds with my son. But I ate well. I craved fruits and veggies. I am sure times have changed but unless you are very heavy to start with 11 to 20 pounds does not seem like a lot.

I would not gain more than 30 total. Don't try and lose weight, but eat healthy. Cause what you don't give the baby nutrition wise. The baby will take from your body.
  • It's ok and I understand why you said it

Your total recommended gained weight is usually based on your pre-pregnancy weight. I was on the high end of normal when I got pregnant with my son and was told to gain between 25-35 lbs. Unless you were way over on weight (and based on your pic, I find that doubtful), your total recommended gain seems low. And 11 lbs!!?? My son alone was almost that much!

I think that if you focus on good nutrition and staying active, then screw the scale. So much of it is excess fluids, etc.

my advice as a woman who has had 2 children that if the dr doesn't tell you to try to loose while pregnant for you and you're babies health then don't try to and just enjoy the pregnancy and eat as healthy as possible.just keep in mind what you eat goes into you're baby.
Don't worry you're self about you're weight so much while carrying you're baby, leave that for after wards.
I didn't bother doing anything to loose weight after my last pregnancy untill she was about a year and ahalf but only started to really try this year and she is 3 this year.
It took a year for my tummy to go down naturaly after have my daughter.

A really good exercise is taking baby for a walks so you get to spend time with baby and do something good for you're body as well as long as you don't over do it like i did after i had my section, you'll just set you're self back if not careful as i cause myself to bleed heavily.

Wish all the best for you and you're baby
Oh and i got the weight off all 12lbs

With my first child I gained 25 pounds. I lost 18 pounds before I even left the hospital. Your stomach is still going to be big when you leave the hospital. That will take some time to shrink. Unless you have been eating ridiculous amounts of food most of what you have gained is just the baby and water. Don't worry so much about weight gain now. I wouldn't worry about it until your baby is about 2 months old. Then you can start working on it. Right now just enjoy being pregnant. I loved being pregnant.

I would say like another poster to try not to gain more than 30lbs. It really depends on the person how much of the weight gain is fat and how much is baby, placenta, uterus, breast tissue, amniotic fluid, and everything. Some people lose just the baby weight after having a baby and other people ( like me) lose like 50 lbs after having the baby. ( I mean right after being released from the hospital). I had a lot of fluid retention and amniotic fluid ( polyhydramnios) so even though I gained more most of it was just bodily changes and baby. Next time I am pregnant I am going to track and keep to maintenance plus 300-500 calories. You could do that in your last trimester.

Have you seen the pregnancy group on here? I am sure they could help you.

The ideal weight to gain altogether is 20-25 lbs. My youngest is 3...I had gestational diabetes with him and I actually lost weight because I had to be on a special diet. But, if you only gain 20-25, you should lose it all within a week of having your baby. :) Congratulations and enjoy your baby!!
