Protein Powder?

So I am looking at getting some protein powder. I want something that tastes good (vanilla and chocolate) but is also healthy and not a million calories. It would also help if it wasn't outrageously expensive. Any ideas? Thanks guys!

Nothing good is going to be really cheap. I use Complete Pro 40 in the Rich Chocolate Cake flavor. The four pound tub was about $50 or so. 40 grams of protein per 8 ounce serving, 202 calories. You are going to want to try to find one with whey or casein and as few carbs as possible.

This is by far the BEST tasting product out there that I have tried. I've tried, purchased, and threw away so many tubs of protein because they tasted to terrible and the aftertaste made my blood curl, but Chike is actually very good and even comes in a coffee flavor! I don't even shop around for protein anymore because I'm sure nothing tastes as good as this does. It comes in Strawberry, Orange, Chocolate, Vanilla & Iced Coffee. :flowerforyou:

I purchase the single packets because they are easy to travel with and is only $2 each. You can also get them in the tubs which is only around $30.

Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard. The overall quality is really good and it's quite affordable compared to some other inflated companies out there. FYI, stay away from anything branded with Muscletech; they're way overprice.

They have a decent selection of flavors and all of them taste good with milk. Most are ok with water but not outright delicious.

I recently discovered "About Time". I got vanilla...I always use the blender to make my shakes and I add crushed ice, almond milk, a banana and one scoop of protein. Taste was good. If I want chocolate, I'll throw in a tablespoon of cocoa.

I use the EAS Carb Balance shakes. They come in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry & caramel. They ALL have 17g of Protein and only 100 calories each. (110 for the chocolate)

They cost $4.97 4/pk @ Walmart - which is much cheaper than the Atkins low carb shakes - and they taste GREAT.

The only thing is that they are mainly SOY protein and I recently found out it IS GMO soy - so if that doesn't bother you, these are the best deal and the most amount of protein in the smallest amount of calories that I've been able to find.

The other option would be to try Whole Foods Whey or Soy (ORGANIC) Protein powder and I suggest mixing it with Silk Almond Milk - unsweetened (1 cup of this milk is only 30 calories - much better than dairy and the whole point is to try to keep this as low cal as possible) You likely won't even know it's almond milk once you've got it mixed with protein powder.

If you do opt for the protein powder vs. the pre-made shakes, I would advise you to get one of those 'blender bottles' that have the little metal widget in the bottom. This helps break up the powder so your shake mixes properly and you're not drinking chunks of undissolved protein powder.

Hope this info helps! Good luck!

I'd just advise to check the ingredients list and make sure you know what's in there. When I first bought protein powder, I didn't realize all of the stuff that they sometimes add in, some of which I did not want, and some of them are higher in cholesterol, sugar, and/or sodium than you may care for. I've moved away from using powders and bars at this point; I find I'm able to meet my protein needs within my diet, but if I was going to get a powder again, it would be this one: http://www.nutrabio.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=NOS&Screen=PROD&Category_Code=protein&Product_Code=WPI2. Nothing in there but whey!

I love Promasil Soft Serve Vanilla...6 ounces low fat milk, 1 1/2 cups of frozen strawberries, give it swirl in my magic bullet and it makes a great strawberry protein shake. There chocolate flavour is very good too, I mix it with frozen bananas. Low calorie, good quality protein, no carbs or suger, etc. Great! I buy it at GNC.

I agree with the poster who said anything good is not cheap. I have four proteins I rotate through out my month, and none are under 40 dollars.
    My favorite proteins are:
    1. Protein 7 Synthesis. It has 2 grams carb, 1 gram fat, 36 grams protein (156 calories), it is time released whey and casein blend from Nutri-Shop, $60 for 5 lbs, last nearly 2 months for me because women need less than men. 2/3 scoop is all I need. Soy and Gluten free
    2. Sunwarrior (plant based protein) - This stuff is amazing, really digestible. 40 dollars for 2 lbs. Soy and Gluten free
    3. Maximum Vibrance - 45 dollars for a month supply. This is a plant based protein, soy and gluten free, has green and rainbow foods added. Amazing stuff. I usually mix a scoop of this to the others.
    4. Paleo Protein by MHP - Egg and Beef protein Isolate - I know sounds strange but this is pretty good stuff when you don't want to do dairy or plant all the time. Has a really good Amino profile, the macros on it are good and is fortified with MCT oil. This is 40 dollars for 2 lbs.

The best way to get protein in your diet is to EAT it, but it is hard for me to get more than 100 grams without supplementing because I am just not that big of a fan or meat. I get full really fast when eating a lot of meat, so the protein powder really help round things out. I do one shake after workout and sometimes one before bed depending on my calorie and macro numbers.
