Morning shake or smoothie ideas!

I am just wondering anyone would like to share some of their recipes/ideas for a great morning shake or smoothie?

My friend has recommended I try protein shakes, but I have no clue what to buy or what goes in them. I am also wondering if I should invest in a good blender so I can whip up some shakes in the morning?

Before I shell out any money, I would love to hear people's views and ideas. So, any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.

    This is my favorite smoothie.

1.5 to 2 cups almond milk
2 cups frozen fruit with banana
    2 servings soy protein powder
organic sugar or other sweetener to taste ( optional)

It is really simple and usually is very thick and creamy. It is 450 calories and quite a bit of protein.

  • Hi,

I've been doing what I call the "Shaolin Life" shake..

Naturade soy protein (Vanilla, chocolate or strawberry) with 10 oz of water
2 tbsp. Golden Flax seed (ground)
    2 tbsp. Toasted Wheat Germ
    3 tbsp. Raw Oat Bran

I then add frozen fruit (usually a half cup

It's around 290 cals, and 20 grams of protein

    REALLY filling and tasty.

I second Michael Kory Fitness. He's got great recipes!

A frozen banana, PB2, protein powder, and milk is my favorite.

My fitness camp instructor recommended a protein shake after workout, too. I bought a case of muscle milk light from Coscto and keep one in a cooler in my car to enjoy on drive home.

This is enough for 3-4 servings.
    4-5 kale leaves
    1 cup spinach
    1/4 of a cucumber
    1 kiwi
    2 small bananas
    1avacado
1/2 Fuji apple (you can use any kind)
    7-10 slices of ginger
    1cup almond milk
    6 ice cubes
Sometimes I add plain yogurt or 1/2 cup of kefir as well.

Also for a treat the other day I used raspberry watermelon and strawberries with coconut milk and ice. Not much in the way of macros but it was tasty on a hot day!

I recommend experimenting with a variety of fresh fruit blended with either almond or coconut milk or Greek yogurt. I also sometimes use coconut water. My favorite fruits include berries, banana, pineapple, watermelon, and apples. I sometimes iuse half a packet of carnation instant breakfast and an occasional bit of peanut butter.

Basic recipe: 2 scoops Optimal nutrition's Gold Standard double chocolate whey, 24 oz cold water, 1 frozen banana (first peel banana, cut in 2 pieces, put in ziplock and place in freezer to use instead of ice).

Depending on calories you have left for the day, on that you can add 2-3oz oj, or strawberries, or flavored yogurt, plain yogurt, replace water with milk, mango, anything you want.

    I love my morning smoothie

    1/2 c milk/soy/almond
    1/2 c non fat yogurt
    1/2 banana
    1/2-1 cup frozen berries
    1 scoop Whey protein
    1 tablespoon ground flax seed.

It is filling and yummy. I don't get hungry until lunch, although I try and eat another piece of fruit for a morning snack.
