Looking for feedback on following the bible diet or maker's diet. This is an eating program where you choose foods based on the recommendations in the bible. Has anyone here done this and what were your results?
thanks

I have. I did the Daniel Fast which was basically vegan. I ate only organic fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. As well as bottled water... you are suppose to have distilled water. Nothing processed though, no wheat, no meat. I did it for a month. I actually lost a lot of weight on it. That was only because I hardly ate anything because by the end of the month I was sick of the fruit and veggies. Then, I would rather not eat than eat. it is very healthy though if you do indeed eat ALL of your calories. I didn't know about calories when I did it and I know I ate WAY under. I lost about 20lbs.. But as soon as my fast was over it all came right back! If you do follow this one, make sure you get your protein. Anyways, that was my experience..

I've heard of it but really see no reason to do it. I've had great success eating pretty much "normal" food and using MFP guidelines. Of course, I cut out junk food, high fat-content food, and switched to whole wheat/whole grains type stuff anyway. Eventually, I found myself just wanting to stay away from junk and craving healthy type foods.

yeah I agree with you. Thats what I do now and it works great and is great! When I did it it was for religious reasons. Was a good learning experience. But now is much better haha

I've even seen some "bible food"--can't remember the name--at stores. Supposed to be made according to biblical standards. I tried some of the chips one time and they were just BAD!

Here's the problem I have with doing something like this for biblical reasons---God made it clear to Peter that ALL food was to be considered "good" now and ok to eat. No more "eat this/don't eat that."

Now, does that mean we can eat as much as we want of anything? As Paul would say "of course not!" No more than we should sin more so that more grace may abound in our lives! All things in moderation, and our bodies should be considered a temple of God and treated as such. Paul also made it very clear that we were not to give into the desires of our body--and that includes food desires. Gotta love that Paul!! :grumble:

Unfortunately for me, until I joined MFP, I treated mine less like a temple and more like, to quote Jimmy Buffett, a tent! :ohwell:

I thank you all for the feedback. I was thinking of doing it for reasons of faith and also to lose weight. There are some interesting bible studies that discuss just that issue about Paul's writings and did his words really mean to eat whatever we want.
I think there is something to the fact that if we eat what was created for our bodies by our creator, it would surely benefit us. I don't, however, think that all of the Old Testament laws pertain to Christians now.
    Thanks again for your responses.

Well, as a side note--humans were vegetarians until after the flood.
