I know when you are pregnant you are not supposed to diet, so here is what I am looking for: I am 21 weeks along and I began this pregnancy at 208, and now, because of morning sickness, I am at 197. I have never been fat at the beginning of the pregnancy and I can feel a huge difference , and it is awful. I am not necessarily looking to lose a ton of weight during my pregnancy, but some sound nutritional advice would be much appreciated. I have a really good doc who shares concern, but because of my morning sickness issue, he just tells me to eat what I can keep down.

I am open to any suggestions here and any recipes for things you recommend would be appreciated.

It really is the best advice - just eat what you can. Anything is better than nothing. I was the same during my pregnancies. After my first son was born, I was much lighter (about 30lbs) than before I got pregnant! I just couldn't eat a thing until about 6 months.

It's normal to NATURALLY lose weight during pregnancy. That is, you're not deliberately trying to lose weight by purposefully restricting your calorie intake. You'll probably find that later on in your pregnancy you'll put weight back on.

Don't worry and take your vitamin and folic acid tablets!

I recommend listening to your doctor & make the wisest food choices that you can. Don't view this as a diet, but as a way to nourish a healthy baby. Try to add in some exercise like walking & take care of the both of you. Congratulations & good luck!

I'm in the same boat, and it's okay for me to lose weight, but really eating healthy is the key, and not deprive yourself (or the baby) of what's needed. I agree with your doc, at this point (as I'm awfully sick myself with the morning stuff that lasts all day long) keeping down what you can is great - just try and make it something healthy, not M&Ms and junkfood. my friends meals consisted of Cheetohs and diet pepsi - not a good combo for baby. OR YOU.

i had morning sickness also and what helped me was popcicles.... weird i know. fruits and vegies also worked for me. try sticking to light foods and snack on them all day. eventually the sickness goes away and food will taste sooo good. so i tried to eat healthy and exercised every day. a week after the baby i lost the 30lbs i put on.

I didnt really diet while i was pregnant with my second pregnancy but i did try to watch what i ate. At that time i was already very overwieght. My doctor and i shared the same concerns about my weight and the possiable complications. I really craved cereal so in the morning i had a large bowl of frosted mini wheats with 1% skim milk, lunch was usually leftover grilled chicken and veggies, tuna in moderation maybe a salad here and there. dinner was grilled chicken, veggies from the garden. I ate plenty of yogurt when i had the munchies along with low fat cottage cheese. My Dr. stressed to me as long as i cut down on the fat and eat plenty of fiber and calcium, along with my prenatals my menu was just fine for a growing baby. i ended up my pregnancy with a 15lbs gain which was lost along with another 5lbs before i left the hospital. i started pregnancy at 267 ended at 282 left hospital at 262. Baby was 7lbs even 21 inch long and healthy as can be.

Awe...You poor thing! I've been there twice and each time, I lost 15-20 lbs. in the first 5-6 mos. Smells would make me throw up and food seriously tasted like poop or toxic chemicals so I just wouldn't eat. I was on Zofran until I delivered. Fun times...UGH...I'm really feeling for you, Mama! Just try to hold on and eat what you can. I would tell you to try to eat healthy foods (lots of fresh whole fruit & veggies) but from my experience you'll probably be doing all you can just to get any sort of food down at all, healthy or not. Once you start feeling better (hopefully soon!) you can then start to focus on eating healthy foods and as you eat those and crowd out not-so-healthy foods, you'll see an appropriate natural weightloss. Just make sure you're getting enough cals. Healthy food is usually a lot more filling and less calorie dense than other foods. Hope this makes sense and congrats on your new little one! :flowerforyou:

Ah the dreaded Zofran. It was horrible. It stopped everything from moving. I was then told to eat prunes which just made me nauseous. Horrible. I stopped taking it and just threw up twice a day and ate what I could until I delivered.

I say eat what you can. I had Campbell's soup for lunch daily for about 2 months. It was the only thing I could stomach. It was the oddest thing.
