Hi everyone! Advice?

Hi! I have always been over weight and every summer I convince myself that I will change - sadly I never do. I always lose motivation and my hopes fade away. Is there anyone that has any recommendations or would like to assist me in my journey?

Thank you for understanding!

I have been that way to up until now.....now I say to myself that this is what I have to do....when I see a snack cake and I really want it I have to make my self turn away.....I had joined MFP last year and did it a few days and quit and I noticed from the last weigh in last year I have gained 17lbs!!!! I think you just have to get the willpower built up and force your self to do it!! Good luck and at least on here you know you are not alone!!!

Hi! It sounds like you might need to do some mental exploration - and maybe writing - before you jump into another diet. Although the answers might feel obvious, it helps to write them down: WHY do you want to lose weight - what are ALL the reasons? Are you struggling with binge eating? What are the emotions that drive those binges? You say you've always been overweight - What was your family's relationship to food growing up, and what is your relationship to it now? How much do you want to lose? How long do you think it will take at 1 pound a week? What are you scared of about losing weight?

Exploring these emotional issues may help you realize what's holding you back from committing to a plan.

Final advice: forget "dieting" - like cutting out fat and carbs. You need both. Once you're ready, use a calculator like this one: http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/ to put yourself on a calorie budget and stick to it. And work out a bit.

    Good luck!

We all have down days, but do not let it continue into everyday. Everyday is a day for a new start. Find tricks that reward even your smallest efforts, and they do not have to be material things, just things that make you happy & joyful. Also find ways that or things that motivate you to keep you going..it is different for us all you just need to get in tune with what you enjoy and what will work for you. It is all about finding a balance, and it does not come overnight..it is always a work in progress as life is constantly changing so we constantly need to adjust our ways to success. Best of Luck. I know you can do this! :flowerforyou:

It's a process. Be kind to yourself and check out Overeaters Anonymous, especially the OA-HOW meetings. Lots of support, you get a sponsor when you're ready and the miracle will happen. And what is eating you will be revealed. All of us who are morbidly obese have had trauma in our pasts and we eat to avoid the feelings, memories and general discomfort. I don't think it is possible to recovery from addictive eating until we get LOTS of support (for me it has been OA-HOW, therapy and being driven to my knees in pain). I pray for people like me daily, because I know the pain. Peace to you, inside and out.

Try making a life style change... Make meal plans that are low calorie but still stuff you enjoy, try new foods that are healthy... I started out eatin nothin but fried foods and now i cant even stand the taste or smell of them. Take it slow walk, run go to the gym, swim find things you enjoy and do it.. you will feel better and be happier... if you feel you messed up say you ate something high in calories just accept that you messed up and go back to eating healthy and strive to make yourself feel good inside and out....

Agreed with other posters that the physical weight loss journey is just the tip of the iceberg, the remainder is very internal: psychological and emotional!

My tips that work for ME: I personally like to go to a gym and sign up, make contact with someone there, and make a commitment to go so that I know someone is expecting me. Once you've decided to do something, make a statement, in writing, to friends or family, etc. and share what your goals are and ask for support! My mom and I do a workout class together once a week, and share healthy recipes etc. I feel obligated once I've promised somebody I'll do something, which helps me get going. I like to make atleast a few of my own meals a week where I can challenge myself to create something delicious and full of superfood healthy items (I also like to sneak fruits and veggies into my brother and boyfriends diets and feel pretty good when they eat it without making a face! haha!)What helps me keep going are long term health and feeling good about self. Working out gives me such a high that it becomes motivating in itself, and encourages me to eat well to better fuel my body. Everybody has to start somewhere! Good luck on your journey!!
