Love Muscle

I love building muscle! And first of all ladies let's get rid of the mind set that if you start to lift weights you are going to bulk up like some body builder. NO YOU WILL NOT!!! If you are building lean muscle, this will not happen. So here are some reasons you SHOULD start to lift weights today!!!

1. Your metabolism will soar.
2. You will burn fat.
3. Your body will get tighter.
4. You will fit into your skinny jeans.
5. You will blast loads of calories.
6. It's good for your bones.
7. You will get stronger.
8. You can lose belly fat.
9. You gain confidence.
10. You can prevent injury.

Who is lifting?

I JUST started using weights last week-3 workouts with a trainer so far and I can't believe the difference in my body! I am 45 and wish I had started at 25 but so grateful to have now! Can't wait to see how I feel/look after a month!

I started on mfp with 1200 cals (that's what it gave me?) So I did some reading. THANK YOU MFP MEMBERS YOU GAVE ME A GIFT! The gift of INFORMATION! You told me to eat my BMR and LIFT! I did that, in one month with NO CARDIO and eating 1800-2000 cals I lost 7 inches!!!!!

    LOVE LIFTING!!!

First, this is so not what I thought this thread was going to be about. LMAO

Second, I don't really lift, but I do the weight machines (I know a lot of people don't consider that weight lifting) and I LOVE how my body is changing for the better. I just started about a month ago and haven't lost a single pound, but yesterday I wore a top I hadn't worn in a while and it was so much looser. Also my jeans are a bit looser in the thighs. I always have had good posture, but it improved even more almost immediately.

It helped my mood a lot, too. I don't know if that's just from shaking up my routine or from working the muscles in my shoulders and back where I hold tension or what, but I love it. I just wish I had started sooner.

I made a page with some good links about lifting. The bottom has some good ones with reasons on why ladies should lift. And it touches on fears and how they are not true- we will not look like men.

just started to incorporate weights into my weekly routine. I have access to weights at work and try to do some everyday. not sure what I should be doing though as I only have a very short time over my luch hour to do it. I do leg presses (10reps X 10 sets at 110lbs), arm curls (5 reps X 5 sets at 60lbs), standing row (5 reps X 5 sets at 70lbs) and sitting chest presses (5 reps X 5 sets @ 70lbs). I will work to add weight and reps as I get stronger but thought I would do that on a weekly basis rather than every day adding a set.
    any thoughts???

i've been weight lifting since i was 17 (am 41 now). i love it.

i'm also pretty good proof that weight lifting is a panacea to weight loss though since the entire time i gained 70 pounds when i stopped being an athlete until now i consistently worked out. i basically consider it a 15 year bulk cycle

Love this! I wish more women would understand that they wont bulk up.

I love lifting. Nothing makes me feel stronger or sexier than when I'm lifting.
