Hi everyone, so my question today is cheat days. I'm 5'8 137 lbs male. I have Muay Thai and baseball mostly all week and I'm pretty active. I've lost 73 lbs since September on a very strict diet, 1000 cals. Not healthy i know but it did wonders. Anyway, is one cheat day (Saturday for me) that bad? Like will it really set me back? And when I say cheat day I mean cheat day.. Like 5k+ calories, it keeps me sane, but is it okay? Any answers appreciated! Btw this summer I plan on upping my calories because I want to start intense workouts.

are you still only eating 1000 a day? If so, bump that up! cheat days are okay too, but if you've been under-eating for a long time, I'm not really sure how you're body would respond to 5000 calories in a day. I'm sure you could use the extra calories though so I'm not suggesting against it!

At your height and weight you can have a lot of cheat days.

If you're averaging 1000 calories a day and are active then a cheat/refeed day would be more likely to help than hinder. Although, you're likely to see an increase on the scale a few days later thanks to the extra carbs and sodium.

But if you know 1000 calories/day is unhealthy why not just eat at a more reasonable deficit instead?

My recommendation is that you talk to a psychologist and a nutritionist.

You seem to need to work some things out.... per your previous and current posts. What you are doing is not healthy.

How about just not restricting yourself to 1000 calories everyday...then you probably won't feel the need to eat 5000 calories in a day. Just up your calories. If you're pretty active, you're definitely not eating enough. I'm 38 years old and all I do is lift weights 3x weekly, jog a few miles here and there and walk a lot and I maintain easily on 2700ish calories per day. Just eat more.

If its working for you then go for it. I think you should find out how many calories it takes to maintain your current weight and just stay there. I cheat often. Not just one day. check out my diary. Its working for me.

You're right, eating that few calories for so long isn't healthy, but one cheat day isn't going to ruin your progress. I have one cheat day every week, usually Friday. I still workout and log all my food, but I eat whatever and however much I want, usually 500-600 cals more than I normally would.

I agree with this. At 5'8" and 137 pounds, you are classfied as underweight. And a normal, healthy guy should never be eating 1,000 calories a day. There can be no logical reason (barring any sort of medical condition) for you to eat less than 1,200 a day - and even that's crazy low for a 5'8" male.
