Trying hard to not lose it.

On my weigh in day, I was 143 pounds. Not bad. The next day, 146. I thought of water weight, remained calm, and waited until today. 145.5. WHATTTTTTT THEEEEEEEE.

I used to have a lot of eating issues (i.e. not eating enough, exercising constantly, struggling with severe self-image issues), so I'm not really accustomed to doing things the healthy way. I just...I really could use someone to remind me that these things happen. I've been doing so well this week. I only missed one day of exercise, but I can bump it up again. That's not a problem.

I don't understand why my body hates me. What can I fix? What am I doing wrong?

Someone help me before I decide this is all just silly nonsense force fed to the public to slow down weight loss. (Yeah, sometimes my thoughts go THAT far. I've been in recovery for about a year from my food issues, but sometimes the thoughts come up. Everyone has their off days.)

Advice/motivation/inspiration. Anything.

Help!

Oh, yeah. Definitely didn't help that one of my best friends guessed my pants size to be an 11 when we were swapping clothes. I'm a 7 or a 9. WHAT.

All I can tell you is that I'm experiencing the same thing so it must be common (I've only been on here for about 2.5 weeks). I've had a really healthy week and done lots more exercise than I ever have before, but the weight hasn't come off.

If we stick at it I'm sure the scales will catch up with our healthiness!

don't weigh yourself every day - too much goes into it for factors. - once a week is what you should do - every Monday morning at the same time. You will be more satisfied and less frustrated.

Weigh yourself weekly at the same time a day every time. Your bodies weight flux though out the day. Losing weight is a long process. It takes time. There is no need to check daily for a process that takes months. Good luck!
  • Hey there congrats on giving a healthy lifestyle a try that's awesome!!

As for your weight on the sacle it seems that you weighed on your weigh in day but didn't wait til that day to come around again and decided to weigh, your weight does tend to fluctuate from day to day so if that's going to bother you I would suggest you weighing only once a week or maybe even every 2 weeks If that doesn't work you may want to ditch the scale all together your happiness is not determined by the number on the scale but base it how you look and feel...have you ever done your measurments if not you may want to use that as a guide as well, don't lose focus on your health because the number on the scale doesn't agree.

Your best friend may not have a good gauge on eye balling sizes so don't let that get to you keep yourself focus on what matters the most to you!

Yeah, your weight fluctuates all day long and from day to day depending on lots of things, and particularly your hormones during certain times of the month can spur water retention.

The best thing is to not weigh yourself everyday. You aren't trying to lose a pound a day, so there really isn't a reason to do it. Just keep up your end of eating the right things and exercising and the rest WILL come. Now if you experience two weeks of no weight loss or weight gain, you should look into your food diary and see what might be going wrong.

And if you're worried about water retention, try drinking more water, and being strict on the sodium intake.

And, you can do this! Don't worry what size people guess you are, just remember what size you really are and what size you will get to by sticking to your plan :)

Totally normal! I would highly reccomend (as others have) to not weigh every day, but just once a week, first thing in the morning after your potty. Look for long term patterns instead of focusing on the weigh to weigh.

Weight sucks. Remember that just because you weigh more today doesn't mean you are fatter today. It's the mass of everything in you. Drink plenty of water and keep up the healthy things you've been doing. You know all of the things you are saying are silly - you said so! As for the friend who guessed your size, don't let that bug you either. I suck at guessing ages. Don't let their distorted guess affect how you feel about yourself - you know the truth!

Personally, I really hate all this emphasis on the scale. It's body fat we want gone, not just "weight." Right? Otherwise, I could cut my leg off and be done with it... Ouch.

And if you know the scale is your enemy, don't give it so much power...like someone else said, don't weigh everyday if you can't handle it. :)

This is totally normal - especially for the first week or two after you change things up (like exercising more, changing exercise, drastic diet change, etc.) The thing you need to realize is that changes don't happen overnight, they take a while to progress, and minor fluctuations are completely normal.

These things DO happen! don't let it psych you out.
If you are struggling with food issues then weighing in only once a week is better. Every day, or worse multiple times a day is gonna play with your head (you will lose that game)
I have the same problem with running. I can do much longer periods of time than I would have ever thought possible but only if I am focused on the moment not if I focus on how much further I have to go.
Goals are wonderful and a necessary part of it but try to focus on how your body feels when it is properly cared for (food water and movement) that will become a better motivator than a particular size of clothing.
Your body doesn't hate you it wants to be treated with respect and dignity and it can reward you by taking you to new adventures that have nothing to do with weight
BTW you TOTALLY look like Buffy in you profile pic!
    love it

Thank you all so much. I just think I needed to hear other people say that I'm not a failure for fluctuating and not constantly losing. You guys are wonderful.

That is the HIGHEST compliment ever to me. My two highest role models are Buffy and Alyson Hannigan (primarily as Willow, but every other role works, too, for the physical aspect). Thank you. I think you just made my day.

Weigh weekly. I have heard that your body weight can go up or down up to 5 lbs throughout a day. It will take many weeks for you to really see the scale budge. However, your body will LOOK different!

Keep up the great work and know that you are doing it!!!!!!!!!!!

I was not loosing for weeks and I was getting very upset because I was eating right and exercising. I did not measure for about 6 weeks and that was it, I lost inches off all area's. so you may be loosing inches, check your measurments.

I feel you on that! I get the same way. I was a weekly weigh in-er and then somehow became obsessed with weighing myself every morning "just to stay on track."

I too get discouraged if I see a lot of fluctuation….which you WILL if you weigh yourself everyday. And with me, I have been really stressed/unhappy at work and when I'm that stressed, my body hangs on to every lb available for dear life. Oh, how I wish I was one of those "I lose weight when I get stressed out" people…..Lucky *kitten*! (just kidding!)

So now I'm going to go back to my weekly weigh ins… on Tuesday (not Monday!). I was doing Tuesdays since that's when I watch "The Biggest Loser"…. It's silly, but it's like a sense of camaraderie for me. I don’t do Mondays since there enough to dread already ;-) Tuesdays or Wednesdays work well for me, but whatever you can stick to. And just be consistent, same time of day, same conditions (i.e - first thing in the morning, in your birthday suit, etc…)

Hang in there and good luck!
