Done with Facebook.. So, here I am, MFP.....

I just posted my last status, basically telling everyone bye. As if they even deserve that much.
Ever since I started losing weight, (26 lbs to be exact), I've also lost friendships.. People will come to me when they need something, want to talk about how sh*tty their life is, this that and the third, but when it comes to what I feel... no one is to be found.
So, I'm done. I am finished with Facebook, no one on there except 1 person knows my phone number, so all of my ties and friendships have been severed.
Facebook is drama anyways, so I will more than likely be on here from now on.
I'm looking for weight loss friends who enjoy a decent (sometimes twisted) sense of humor.
I can motivate you whenever you need it, I'm simply a message or post away!
I myself am in need of motivation at times, so it would be awesome to have that support
system.
All in all, I'm here to better myself and feel great.
If I'm able to make someone else's day just as good, then that just makes this journey all the more better.
Add me if you would like!

Hi there!
I've pretty much done the same thing, too much negativity on Facebook. MFP has become like Facebook to me where I give and receive support from people with similar goals.
Wish you well with your weight loss journey and I hope you don't mind but I am sending you a friend request0 -

I couldn't agree more. I don't mind your request at all. I accept anyone/everyone!0 -

I feel like i am about there also. Enjoy the quiet drama free life and keep working on you! Add me if you like0 -
I use facebook to get news from every sports team in the NFL, MLB, and NBA. Superhero stuff, video games, just awesome stuff. All in one place. Also I like a ton of random, goofy pages, so I always get my fix of stupid laughing. I tried deleting mine, but It just didn't work out. The only thing about facebook I DOn't care to hear is people posting vague statuses *****ing about the same god damn problems every day and using hashtags on facebook. But that's what the block and hide options are for.0

Definitely. Sending you a request now.0 -
mfp has almost entirely shoved facebook out of my life, and i'm not looking back.0

@Brown, yeah i just couldn't handle being the "guy to go to when my life is throwing me lemons", but when it does it to me, I'm shoved away.
I have 1 real friend in my life now since I did it.. It's saddening, but 1 is better than 0.0 -
Ahhhh Facebook....full of BS and DRAMA!!! I love it on here because everyone is positive and there is no drama0

I wouldn't exactly say that. I've seen some posts get out of hand..
Unless your comment is sarcastic.. If that's the case, you have successfully trolled me... Or have you.. :laugh:0 -
So glad you posted this topic because I was just about to do so. I think Mfp is the new hottest media site its great support positive for weight loss or just maintenance with food and exercise. I actually feel people are more real not superficial like facebook, some ppl would post these horrible pics and then it became competitive thing about who got more 'likes' on there. Others were just posting their latest gf or bf to show off to everyone so nobody thinks they are so lonely. I began by eliminating on my news feed so many ppl that it came down to that I barely had anyone on my news feed page cus I was sick and tired of hearing their crap! none of those ppl ever cared when I was sick in hospitals or happy when I went on vacation or found a job. I found good ppl here on myfitness pal that do care, feel free to add me.0

I completely agree. Even though I haven't officially said bye to Facebook yet, but I haven't been on it for quiet some time.
And I completely understand with the whole friends situation. My friends are exactly like that. It's really annoying. Soi try to avoid enabling them but I can become a bit of a pushover sometimes. Getting better day by day though. It is frustrating to listen to their problems and know that they won't do the same for you.

The amount of support on here verses FB is amazing.
My "friends" on FB just want to start drama, gossip or just want to brag about only their great things. I only ever post links (typically from Buzzfeed) or fluff like that. Complete strangers on here care more about what is going on with my health than friends.
My true friends laugh when people complain that I am not on there as much. I text them. I don't feel the need to post things to everyone on FB.
You can friend request me, if you would like. I love being part of the support system that this site offers.0 -
Dang! Sorry to hear that and unfortunately I am no stranger to being there for others but not getting the same treatment in return, definitely sucks. The support on here is amazing though! I wish you luck!0

i dont even bother with fb anymore, ive been here since october 2011

I gave up FB in Nov 2012. Have not looked back since. Add me if you want.0

Was never into FB. Too much drama and pretensions. MFP is great but be warn, there's a dark side to it too. My friends here are awesome but you only have to go to certain threads to see the cattiness. if you're looking for support, I would be glad to be your friend. Feel free to add me. :flowerforyou:0

Sometimes I feel like it is a dual persona. I post my one year blog on there and got two replies, TWO out of all my friends and family there. I post it on here and am inundated with friends requests and am given so much love and support. I love MFP. When you are on journey like this (150 lbs total to lose) people will scoff at first, then surprised when you start losing, and then jealous when you succeed. I don't have time for that. I love coming here and having like minded, ENCOURAGING people to talk to about this. I keep fb for family, my social issues, and some great health/fitness pages.

I'm not saying bye to facebook but I find myself spending the time HERE rather than there. I'm not one for phone conversations so it's easier to stay in contact with family in other states or out of the country. It's becoming just one big, share and advertise waste of time.0
-
nothing wrong with giving up fb. I only use mine to keep up with family that is far away. I can see pics of my niece and nephew, see my cousins kids etc but that is about it
but my fb is basically drama free even with all of the random acquaintances on there still because I don't bother deleting people
good for you though, get rid of drama0 -
Feel free to add me. My list is already bigger than I wanted so what the heck! I'm here every day too and I'm Aussie.0
-
Not that I've given up on facebook, but I totally feel you, it's a lot of drama and a lot of TMI. I've got some friends I'm happy to stay in contact with on there, but other than that I wonder what's the point sometimes.0
-
I also 'gave up' facebook over a week ago. Not because of drama or anything, I was just spending way too much time on it. Honestly it was really the only social time I got (I live on a farm a fair way from town and 3500km from my friends) so I felt like I needed it, but in the end I relied on it too much to get through my day.
Anyway MFP is my new facebook, I've added like minded and supportive friends and because I feel that MFP is more useful than facebook, I'm happy to use it as a bit of a social tool too. Not that I'm posting as much or as intimate things on here as I ever did on FB.
I'm happy with my decision and haven't even wanted to look at it since I deactivated my account. My hubby has his own FB account and I haven't even looked at it, which goes to prove that I am coping well without it.
Just wanted to say I know you won't regret your decision to focus more on you, rather than what everyone else is doing (or not doing).

FB has a silver lining, for me anyway. It's a wonderful way to keep in touch with my family. Some of the pages I like offer up pretty amusing memes, too. FB isn't all bad, just stop liking/friending stupid ****.0
-
I'm at the point where I dislike FB now, too. I have a handful of family and friends on there that I do want to keep in touch with. For the most part, however, my "friends" are people that start drama, post things that drive me nuts, or cause me to feel unhealthy mentally, physically, emotionally...if that makes sense. People that are fake and make others feel like ****. I can't handle it anymore. What sucks is that a lot of those people are also friends with several others that I want to remain friends with so I worry about unfriending or blocking the person that delivers bad vibes. I'm to the point that I feel like I just need to clean house of all those people and keep with the ones that I talk to on a more frequent basis. Do I really need 150 old high school "friends" on my list? Um, nope.
I agree with a PP about getting all of the news and updates about sports in one place though. I love having the Bleacher Report, ESPN, news, etc. pop up in one newsfeed. Is it worth it for the negativity though? Probably not for me.
One more side note: my husband recently deleted his account because he feels that I'm on there WAY too much and it is affecting our marriage. He said he couldn't handle going on once a day and seeing just how much I was active on there. That right there has woken me up to the dangers of FB. I'm totally cool with letting go.0 -
im using both!!! LOL cant be without my fb!!!0

This I did a major clean-up of my fb friendslist a couple of years back, and most of the people didn't even realise I had deleted them. So I figure that's alright If I feel obliged to, then I will accept their friend request, and delete them later. With colleagues from work, I straight-up tell them I will not add colleagues on facebook. So yeah Fb works for me.0 -
MFP has kind of rendered my FB redundant. Why would I be there when I can be here with so many motivated and inspiring people?! I've always felt such a negative vibe from FB, it can be so draining on your energy and emotional well being.
MFP rocks!0 -
I am done with Facebook too. I am far more interested in what my MFP friends have for dinner than what all the people on FB have. I'm a fairly positive person, and the negativity on FB tends to get me down. It's a good way to keep in touch with old friends, and family, but other than that, no thanks!
I found it was a huge waste of time. My husband is on there far too much, always has six or seven chat screens going at a time, and ignoring me to chat to a whole lot of people who aren't even really his friends. I go on there once every day or two to see what people are up to, but I'm not on there longer than 10 minutes usually.
In saying this, if it weren't for a friend posting a link to MFP on her FB page, I wouldn't be here yet!!
There are some really nice people here on MFP, I've made some good friendships here, and it's good to have the support of like-minded people. Add me if you like0 -
Hi LostinH
A Warm Welcome - feel free to add me - I don't do drama
Jjx0 -
I only friend people I really know and actually like on Facebook, but accept friend requests from anyone on mfp.
No one I know in real life is into spreading any negative parts of their personal life all over Facebook, and as I have colleagues, ex-pupils and my parents on Facebook I'm very guarded in what I say too.
As for mfp... I accept almost all friend requests and wait to see how things pan out. I've seen and been involved in drama on mfp which there isn't the slightest whiff of on my Facebook.
So, I don't think you can blame one site or the other. It's all about the company you choose to keep.0
