Hey there,
I hurt my knees a few weeks ago and was unable to exercise at all for a long time. Now I can do everything without feeling pain apart from lunges but the following day it hurts when I bend and I'm having to take a day or 2 resting before I can even do light exercise again.
Can anyone give me some advice on exercise to tone up my abs and thighs that doesn't involve too much knee work.?!
Much appreciated.

For thighs and abs and easy on the knee joints... first thing that comes to mind is swimming, if you have access to a pool. In between seasons of my old soccer days, I'd hit the pool fairly often to keep my legs and core strong (needed that core strength for goalie work ).
For abs there are multiple exercises you can do that won't involve your knees - check out bodybuilding.com for a list of exercises. They break down different body types and give you options depending on what tools (barbells, dumbbells, your own bodyweight, etc) you have available.0 -
A exercise that helped my knees is to put a exercise ball on the small of your back while against a wall. feet shoulder width apart and slightly pointed outward. just roll down the wall while resting your back against the ball. you basically want to work your inner thigh muscle. i had runner's knee and this exercise combined with stationary bike solved my knee issue. i still have pain time to time, but nothing like i had before...now i run everyday, with minimal to 0 pain.0

Ah that's great thanks guys!
I spoke to the estate agents to try and hassle them into opening and cleaning the pool in our garden. Hopefully they will get their act together soon, I dont feel accomplished if I haven't done some form of cardio for the day!0 -

It sounds like you're trying to return to the same level of exercise that you had before your injury. After a few weeks off.... you can't do that. You need to ease into it.
Do the exercises you *were* doing, but fewer, with less weight and less intensity. Build back up until you're pain-free.0 -
