Tips before a 10K run

HI Everyone!

I have my first 10K run next Saturday, and I need some pointers. Because the run is at 8am, what should I eat/how much water should I drink before hand? I know to drink water, but don't know how much water to drink prior to. Also, would a piece of toast be enough beforehand? What should my running schedule look like this week? I haven't really been following the schedule they gave us, but have it doing it myself.

What are some tips you have for a first time runner?

Thanks all!

i drink about 16oz about hr and a half before so i can get it running through me just before the run.. some ppl eat carbs like pasta night before... i just eat about 2hrs before like toast and some type of fruit. usually the last week before the run pretty much is a rest period.. lil to no running.. can do other activities not pounding your feet.

i was sick half my 10k prep back in april but ran 57.10 at 185lbs. at 177lb last october my first 5k i ran 24.36.

So if you run was at 8am, you'd wake up at 6:30? Maybe I'm still lazy...?

Just do what you normally do before a run (race day is NOT the day to try out new things). You don't need to 'carb load' or anything before a 10k, and you don't want to shock your body with something unfamiliar. If you normally run on an empty stomach, do that.

I usually have a piece of toast with peanut butter an hour and a half before racing, and maybe 16 ounces of water.

This has lots of good tips: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/279198-running-tip-so-you-are-about-to-do-your-first-race

yea because most races you have to be there much earlier depending on how many ppl are running.. i ran here in richmond va and there about 35000 ppl so many waves of ppl like 1500 at a time. but smaller ones prob at least half hour if not hour prior.

-Stay hydrated . But, don't go crazy drinking too much water the morning of the race.
-. The morning of the race, eat something easy to digest like low-fiber cereal or a banana.
    -Get there early.
    -Pace yourself and have fun!

I am signed up for the Bellin 10K in Green Bay Wisconsin. The last I heard was 18000 signed up. I've been having problems with hyper-ventilating, but will do my best to run the entire thing!

o wow.. breathing for me was 90% of running.. once i got that under control i was golden.. breathe slow and controlled i do through my nose primarily and i focus alot on it.. slower you can breathe slower your heart rate the more work you can do.

I will be waiting for you at the finish line!!!! My plan is to keep running this week, just smaller distances so that my legs are still used to running. The day before maybe a small walk and some carbs. The day of the race I plan to wake up at 630 just because of traffic, eat a hard boiled egg, and drink maybe one cup of water. I don't want to pee during the race or get a cramp from too much water. Just make sure you breath. Don't worry about how many breathes you take with each step or anything. I hope you are as excited as I am!!!!
