City Rivalries?

What are the most famous city rivalries in your country? I'm from Düsseldorf/ Germany which has a big rivalry going with Cologne. It's basically about who brews the better beer and has the more successful football (soccer) club. It's good natured competitiveness usually.

I heard San Francisco and Los Angeles have a bit of a rivalry going. I guess in most cases they are only ever mentioned when sports teams compete against each other.

I can't agree to that.It would be disloyal.

I do love New York too but Boston is my home!

I live in Alberta, Canada. Edmonton and Calgary are rivals, but mostly because both have an NHL team.

I live in San Francisco, and Oakland tends to be a good city rival (but I am mostly referring to sports, primarily baseball) - as well as Los Angeles, but that rivalry is usually one sided, in LA - I kid, I kid.

The big one in my region is Lawrence, KS/Columbia, MO....but that's mainly college athletics. It's still there even though MO has now switched conferences. there's even a 5k that happens in the fall called the "rivalry run" that pits KS folks against MO folks....pretty cool.

Just to be clear what side I'm on....ROCK CHALK!!! Love me some Kansas Jayhawks :D

Well, I'm from Scotland and here it's Edinburgh v Glasgow or 'edinburgers v weegies'. There's a very funny book published in two halves with the case for Edinburgh on one side and when you turn it over it's rooting for Glasgow. This rivalry extends to culture and particularly football even though there's only 45 miles between the two cities. Edinburgh folk believe themselves to be a cut above and the Glaswegians think Edinburgh folk are snobs. Mainly good humoured banter but the Scots cannae agree on the colour of s***e

Michigan State University (East Lansing) VS University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) Unless either of them are playing Ohio.
