Hey there all fitnesspal- friends!

I have a birthday party to attend this weekend. I am not always sure what to order in a bar when it comes to light drinks... Any suggestions?? Any bar tenders out there?? By the way, cheers! It's Friday :) or like we say in South America, salud!!

Welcome!

Vodka. The only calories is the alcohol.
  • Gin or vodka mixed with soda water or slimline tonic, they're my go-to's :)

I usually have gin & tonic... Most of the time the tonic isn't diet though (unless I make them at home), but if I only have 1-2, I don't worry about it too much. Or I'll have 1-2 glasses of wine.

I avoid sweet drinks; like Pina Coladas (yummy though...) or stuff like that.

Im a bartender, as you know stay away from alcopops, any of them could contain 200-300 calories they are very high in sugar. Basically most spirits will be low calorie and mixed with a diet drink shouldnt amount to much, if you prefer beer or cider try magners light or coors light, they are your best options really

mmmm, bloody marys! Vodka and v8 juice

I was once told that if you do have a drink stay away from the sweet and fruity stuff (the good stuff) but have something clear - like vodka (smirnoff ice doesnt count as clear and has over 200 calories per bottle - learned that the hard way!)

I drink Gin with club soda and lime. 69 cals per single. This is the lowest I have ever found, and it's great as it also helps hydrate you resulting in less water retention and, of course, less hangover. :drinker:

As a bartender, all alcoholic beverages are carb and calorie loaded. Your best bet if you can't mix with soda or diet tonic is to order a double with diet pop. Aspartame is bad for you too, but if calories are your main concern it is better than regular pop, juice, or any sugary bar mix. In a double, you'd have two shots of liquor (70-80 cals each) and pop. The trick is that there is a bit less pop in a double than there is in two singles!

my favorite right now is absolute mandarin, club soda, splash of ginger ale. It is low cal and very refreshing. The orange vodka makes all the difference!

Most clubs I've ever asked for diet something (tonic or coke) never had it :( They only have the regular... Too bad, now I won't ask anymore... I just drink less, which is probably better anyways ;)

Not sure about the states but I can tell you they are certainly not malt liquor in Canada. I am allergic to all things gluten and Smirnoff Ice and I get along. I do know that Boons is malt liquor, not wine+fruit... I found out the hard way.

www.facebook.com/CountryGirlCocktails have a really good peach tea vodka. It only has 1 carb and it's still 32 proof. Jana Kramer the country singler claims that is how she stays fit while on tour and on set.

    ok that sounds delicioussss

As for drinking, I usually go with diet & some liquor (vodka, rum, soco) etc. They usually have anywhere from 70-100cals/shot.

I don't have any low calorie drinks, I always keep to red wine but I switch between wine and water. One glass wine, one glass water ect ect. This was you won't have a hang over or over dehydrate yourself and it helps the impact on your liver. And it works with all drinks!!
