Debated creating an account for this site for a long time, but finally decided to take a chance.
I've struggled with my body image for a long time because I suppose I've always been considered 'fat' for an Asian girl, and since I'm rather short, I've always found it extremely hard to lose weight while keeping my caloric intake at an acceptable amount. But I'm going to try my hardest because I'm graduating university soon and want a fresh start on life c:
Currently, I'm 22 years old, 5'1, and 126 pounds. I'm aiming for 105 (give or take 5 pounds) hopefully by sometime this year, but I'm sure it will probably take longer; just need to practice some patience I suppose!

You have a normal BMI so I wouldn't exactly consider you fat but good luck on your journey. Make sure you are doing it for YOU though and not just for others! Hope you succeed and lose the weight you want to!0

Like the previous poster, you have a healthy BMI. *But* as a fellow Asian, I can totally understand where you're coming from with regard to being considered "fat" even when you're at a perfectly normal weight for your height. Where are you from?0

Why the funny faces? She is safely able to lose so weight at her age & height especially as in her culture girls are very small. See this site. You'll be on the lower end of healthy but still in the right zone.

You'd be BMI of 19.8 and to be in the underweight category you'd have to be 18.5 or less.0 -

Aha, thank you :'3 I know I might be coming across as a little crazy, considering the second response, but when you're the only full figured person in your social and family gatherings it can be a little discouraging.
I'm currently living in California, though I was born in Hong Kong - I'm Cantonese/Filipino by blood c:0 -

To add on, I'll just say that here in Singapore at least, the top limit for a healthy BMI has been revised downwards to 23. That means my current BMI of 24.5 is *still* considered overweight where I live.0 -

No worries I understand. I don't like it, but I get it *grins* I would just tell you to take it easy with the weight-loss, and focus on the getting fit/healthy (if you're not already lol). You are already in a good weight for your height, though it may be more than you want, so your weight loss will probably not come quick. Also, weight lifting is good for you. I know from personal experience Give it a go! I'm sure you will like the mirror-results from that. Good luck! ^^0 -

Yeah, it's going to be a journey, no doubt about that - but I'm keeping the health benefits in mind as well, considering there is a history of heart disease on my father's side, aaah. Like you stated in a previous response, the BMI for East Asians is set lower than it is for western societies, so I always try to keep both in check, as disheartening as it can be sometimes :'3
I'm trying to work in more strength training with my cardio as I go; I've been at it for about a month and I'm already starting to see some definition, which is strangely exciting~
Good luck to you as well, I wish you the best0 -
Main thing is don't eat too little or you'll just end up yoyo dieting. Find out your TDEE and eat 10-20% less than it. If you need a tool to work it out PM me and we'll sort it out.0
