I think it's possible, but not guaranteed.
How many calories are you eating and what are you doing for exercise?
Personally, I'd focus more on inch loss rather than scale weight.0 -
im currently eating around 1700 which is a 970 deficiate...and exercise we mostly walk maybe an hour most days and do some sit ups squats and crunches0

That is a good amount. How long did it take you to lose the 1st 20lbs (congrats on the first 20, by the way!!)
There's no fad or special eating patterns that you need to lose 20lbs. Just make sure you are eating wholesome food, reach your calorie and macro goals, and exercise!0 -
what is 5:2 diet?0

It is possible but not guaranteed. Try:
Drinking 3 litres of water a day
eat lots of leafy greens and fruits
cut out soda
decrease your sodium level
eat healthy fats
eat your body weight in protein
LIFT!!! (lifting increases metabolism) 3x a week
Do an hour of cardio 4x a week
Eat about 20-30 grams of fibre
eat Lean meats
No junk food!0 -
I think it's possible.
5:2 diet is an intermittent fasting type of diet that will help some people with adherence (and some people will hate it) but it's not magic and I wouldn't get too concerned right now with finding a specific meal frequency. Focus on staying in a reasonable caloric deficit and eat nutrient dense foods and move more and you'll do well regardless of whatever specific meal timing protocol you choose.0 -
Also, make sure you are eating enough!! I weigh 190 and I eat 1900 cals a day!0
-
what is 5:2 diet?
You eat as normal five days per week and restrict your calories to 500 on the other two days. (Non-consecutive days)
E.g on Monday and Thursday eat 500 cals. The other days eat what you normally do.0 -

Is that 1700 before or after your exercise? It should be your net for the day after eating back your exercise calories. 20lbs in 2 months is a lot. You'd have to be extremely dedicated and you'd have to be doing more then just walking. And, the more you exercise the more you should be eating. Slashing calories works for a short time, but it isn't healthy or sustainable. Eventually you'd gain back the weight because of the extreme food deprivation you did. I agree with kr1stadee that focusing on measurements instead of a scale # is good way to go. Adding in weights(and not the little colored wimpy dumbbells) will help to change your body shape. I'm not close to my goal weight and I'm on the verge of a size 10 which I never fit into when I was this same weight in the past. I've been lifting for about 3mos now.0 -

Yes, many people like the 5:2 diet. Or you could try another form of Intermittent Fasting., such as Fast Five or Leangains. There's a group on MFP that has an FAQ.
If you're not losing weight, you're probably eating too much and not burning as many calories as you think. I would try dropping to 1700, at the very least.0 -
beginning or end of August? By the beginning it may be tough, that gives you just about 8 weeks. If your class reunion is closer to the end, it buys you more time. Either way, I encourage you to set a goal past that date as well, so you don't lose your motivation once the reunion is over. It looks like you have started strong with some exercise and dietary changes, so kudos to you for committing to getting fit and healthy. When you are ready, add in more weight bearing exercise, you will probably get a lower burn than with cardio, but my understanding is by lifting, you build more lean muscle. This muscle burns more calories over the long term which will help you lose more weight. When you hit your goals you can then eat more and still maintain. Who doesn't like that idea?! I also like what one other poster suggested...focus more on inches, clothing fit, and overall appearance than the scale. It can be almost evil, the numbers go all over depending on so many factors--time of the month, time of day, sodium intake/water retention, etc. but the other measures do not "trick" you like that. In one 8 week period recently, for example, I gained 2 lbs. But my measurements at the fitness club showed it was a 2 lb. muscle gain and at the same time I lost a pound of fat. The straight up weight measurement did not give me that info, and without it I'd have been discouraged.
Again, good luck to you on your journey to better health. Your body and your family will both be the beneificiaries for your hard work!!0 -

No, it's not magic, but it has many other benefits separate to weight-loss that normal calorie-deficit diets do not.
5:2 all the way.0 -
I agree about the 5:2 diet, I've been doing that (and Insanity) since 22nd April and have lost 12 pounds.0

I think that it is possible but I wouldn't get upset if you don't reach that goal because it is a big one. Eat as clean as possible and switch up your exercise routine. Walking is great but if you want to lose 20 pounds in 2 months then you need to do more than that. Try joining a gym and doing different classes. Good luck!0

Great!!! right now I am doing a full body machine workout. I do cardio and then I do this routine called fit fix which is 9 machines that work every muscle group. It's fantastic and good for me because I have a shoulder injury and freeweights scare me lol. Hop on some machines at your gym and ask en employee or a fellow gym member for some advice0 -

I take my portable DVD player to the gym and follow a lifting program. Message me if you are interested in more information!0 -

5:2 all the way.
And therefore everyone should do the 5:2 diet because of these benefits?0 -

Nope, the best diet is one somebody can stick to, so whatever they chose is fine.
However, there would be less obesity and disease in the worlds population if everybody did 5:2 or some form of fasting.
There is a reason it's been around for thousands of years.0 -

THere would be less obesity if people wouldn't eat in a prolonged caloric surplus. Meal frequency is not necessarily a direct cause of this and fasting isn't a direct solution. Energy restriction is.
If fasting helps you restrict energy and adhere to the diet, then do it.
If it doesn't, then don't.0 -
I think it's possible.

^^yep
And make sure you weigh your food and log everything. If you do not already have one, buy a digital scale. Even measuring in cups, unless its liquid can be pretty inaccurate.0 -
Very possible! Work hard at it0
