OK, I keep hearing all these amazing, inspiring success stories about P90X and I really want to try it out. But I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to do a lot of it because of my hip dysplasia. Is there a lot of focus on crunches and sit-ups? I can't do those. If not, what kind of exercises do you do for your abs/core?

there's a lot of focus on everything
you don't have to do ab ripper x which is basically 300+ actions on your lower abdomen or hips

there is a "lean" version.. check in on that

The lean version isnt a ton different tho. One less ab ripper and one less strength training session a week.

yes you will get max results following a plan, but nobody says you have to follow it exactly

A big part of P90X is Ab ripper X, which is a 15+ minute ab workout you do the same day as every resistance training workout. It's ALL hip stuff. Not a lot of crunches, but a lot of emphasis on the hip flexors. I actually don't do it, because I wasn't getting an ab workout. instead I developed an ab routine I do while my wife does ab ripper which focusses more on the 6 pack.

You can definitely do the program without ab ripper. you'll still get great workouts for the whole body with the combo of resistance and cardio. And since the main ab workout is in its own seperate workout, it's easy to drop it from the program.

A couple other considerations; After every 3 weeks there is a "recovery week". This is also a core focus week, with a workout called "core synergistics". This is the only workout with ab/core work sprinkled in throughout the video. You can easily replace core synergistics with another workout. There is a workout called "cardio x" which works well as a replacement for any other workouts you need to avoid or don't feel are giving you the results you want.

The other consideration is the yoga disc, which ends with something Tony calls "Yoga belly". This is a yoga-inspired ab workout which takes up the last 15 minutes of yoga. Again, easy to pull as you can just stop the disc when yoga belly starts. I also skip yoga belly, as I feel like my abs need to recover from the reaming I give them with my personal version of ab ripper X.

Thanks everyone for your replies... I don't want to do away with the ab exercises entirely though because that is the main part of my body I want to work on! I'm just trying to figure out how to do that with my hip problem. Maybe P90X isn't the way to go about that...
