Don't consider it a "diet" Look at is as a life style change.
Look at the food you are consuming. Log every thing, even if it's not healthy.
Look for healthier options in the market, whole foods. Nuts, Beans, Lean Meats, Veggies.
If your ultimate goal is to be a better you, you have to change every thing you ever did in the past.
Slowly incorporate great food with your workouts.
I find it helpful, to also eat some of your favorite foods often, always in moderation.0 -
Hi linda,
Well you've taken the first step in joining MFP . What part of the diet are you clueless about? Or are you just not sure about diets in general?
If that's the case I'll try my best to help you out.
First step, let's calculate your calorie needs daily. The best place to do that is here:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/macronutcal.htm
Simply type in your weight and it will give you a rough estimate of your daily calorie intake. If your goal is to lose weight then take away another 500 calories from the current calorie intake. I'm pretty sure you can also do the same thing on this site, but anyways.
Now that we have that done, we can start to play around with your calories I use this site to divide my calories, fats, carbs and proteins. It's the best way I find.
For example, let's say you're looking to lose weight and your calorie intake is 1600. We'll divide them calories into carbs/fats/proteins.
The best way to do this is by going to the Food section on this site and start entering food on your diary. What I normally do is click on the "Create Food" button so I can add food that I have here at home since it differs from what's on the website.
For an example, and remember this is just an example so don't copy it (follow your own macros), I'll put down a sample diet plan. These macros are not correct.
Morning:
3 eggs
oats
peanut butter
milk
total: calories 650 carbs 40 fats 25 protein 30
Lunch:
Rice 100g
Chicken
Veg
total: calories 350 carbs 45 fats 5 protein 30
Dinner:
Sweet Potato
Steak
Veg
olive oil
total: calories 450 carbs 40 fats 55 protein 50
Now lets say you went on a diet based on something like this and you met your calorie intake for the day, by sticking to it you WILL lose weight. If you're eating under your daily calorie needs, you can only lose weight.
example:
If your calories intake is 2000, and you want to lose weight, take away 500, which will leave you with 1500. Stick to them calories daily and you'll start making progress. Of course exercise will only speed up things
I really tried to make this as basic as possible and I hope you can understand it. Feel free to message me if you have anymore questions0 -
I am trying the same thing! I totally get you! I've tried every diet going and nothing seems to work! Hopefully we can motivate each other! My new plan is to just eat healthily and try to work out at least once every day, sticking to around 1200Kcal, fingers crossed we will be able to get into those Summer Clothes soon!!0

Abs are made in the kitchen not the gym. You lose weight in the kitchen and get fit in the gym. 70% what you eat and 30% workout, you cannot out exercise a bad diet. Msg me and we can chat more about the importance of clean eating!0
