playing with kids in the pool

So summer is here (kinda if chicago weather would agree with the season that is). But me and 2 kids went to the YMCA pool for 1.5 hours this morning. We played in the water. Now I dont mean i stood there in the water and watched them playing, but rather swam around with them (both beginner swimmers) they hung on me and I swam them around, or pulled there noodles around the pool. played tag... basically CONSTANT movement. Including giving them rides on my back while i swam. I have NO IDEA how many cals I burned... I have been using body media arm band to tell me my daily burns but you cannot wear it in the water.... (i think thats something they should be looking into) I would like to get a handle on how much i may have burned. I am 247 lbs. I know excersize in the water burns more than out ... so I am at a complete loss how to calculate this... any help?

I usually put under cardio category as water aerobics when I take my daughter. I do the same thing as you have stated. If we go fo an hour I will typically log half of the time because its not as strenuous as regular water aerobics.

    Hmm, according to this site

    http://www.primusweb.com/cgi-bin/fpc/actcalc.pl

someone your weight, playing with kids (vigorous effort) out of the water for 90 minutes would burn 842 calories. There's no 'playing with kids in the pool' section on the site, so I used 'Swimming: general, leisurely, no laps', and it says 90 minutes burns 1010.4 calories. And then on the MFP database of excercise, under 'swimming, leisurely, general', it says you would burn 555 calories.

My guess would be closer to 842, and I feel its better to underestimate than overestimate.
