Tips on my diet?

Hey guys, I'm new to dieting and trying really hard to set myself up for success. I've made my diary public, and was hoping someone could take a look at what I ate today and tell me what they think of it? I plan on sticking to that food for a long time if its good! (plus working out of course!)

Personally, I'd want to add more vegetables. Partly for taste, partly for vitamins that aren't found in other foods, and mostly for fiber. Fruit is good, but it won't get you all your vitamins. And I might rethink the juice, too. It's a lot of sugar calories, but not very filling. You're eating small meals with snacks in between? It looks like you've spaced it out enough to stay comfortable all day, so if you're happy with it then just keep playing around with specific foods. You might also add things like nuts/almonds. Good source of protein, healthy fat, and fiber.

And do you mean that you plan to repeat this day's menu every day? You said you plan to stick with today's food for a long time. Variety is important. Both for the nutrient factor, and for avoiding boredom which will lead to splurging. Play around with different foods. Food is fun!

the juice is in there because i use it to make smoothies, is there a different juice i should use? I was thinking I needed more vegetables too, Im just not sure which ones i should eat yet. and sorry no Im not eating the exact same thing every day, i just meant that basic layout of calories/carbs/proteins etc

You're under on both protein and fat--I would try to hit those goals. You aren't as far under on protein as it looks, though--those egg whites contain some, so find an entry that actually has the protein count.

I like orange juice in my smoothies. Similar calories to apple juice, but packs a huge amount of vitamin C.

I'm not a smoothie fan, so I'm not really sure about the juice. But your end-of-day is high on carbs, and low on protein. So what if you swapped the juice for milk? Then you'd get more protein, and some calcium and vitamin D.

Is the breakfast a smoothie too? I was wondering about the egg whites, banana, and butter.

Hi, My Dr. told me that my sugar was coming up, but at this point I am not diabetic. She did warn me not to eat too many fruits because the sugar in them adds up, even if I am watching the sugar content in food otherwise. You may want to substitute some of the fruit snacks for nuts, raw veggies, and other goodies.

Sure i can try swapping out the juice for milk, good call! and no the breakfast is just me eating a banana and then cooking up 3 egg whites, but i use butter to make them not stick to the pan haha. I'm never hungry in the morning so i just eat it to start my metabolism. And to majope, Ill look for an entry that has the protein!

Eating the same thing every day is problematic because of varying levels of micronutrients -- swap it up a bit. For example, if you had a banana this week, have an orange next week -- if you had green beans, try broccoli -- something similar, you don't have to do major changes.

Many of the entries in the database and missing some information. It's something to look for when you're logging food. It becomes a hassle, but it's important and will pay off in the long run.

Looks pretty good to me. Have you tried almond milk for your smoothies?

ah, i was thinking i would just try 2% milk to boost my fat levels a bit and cut back on some sugar, would almond milk be better for that?

Totally agree with this! You need to check the information on the food you eat to make sure it matches what you choose in the database. Also agree with using milk in your smoothie instead of juice. Looks like you are starting out on the right foot asking for help.

cut out the apple juice number one full of sugar. You are eating alot of sugar in fruit form. Add veggies quality proteins some olive oil and nuts. You will b much more fufilled rather than drinking liquid sugar.

I'd say cut down on sugar (juices etc) and try for more veggies, and whole foods.

In ref to you using juice for smoothies, why? I make delicious smoothies with protein powder, soy milk and half a banana. Frozen or fresh fruit is a great and much healthier alternative to the processed, packaged kind.

But looks like you're doing ok so far for a newbie! :)

you can make a soothie or better a protein shake with almond milk. A fruit smoothie can average 60 grams of sugar, why not get some nutrition protein powder, almond milk, 1 cup frozen berries not a sugar bomb and add peanut butter to make it a substantial meal.blend.

It looks like you are too high in fat and carbs. I would encourage you to have one serving of fruit in the a.m. Citrus helps burn calories.. one piece of fruit and a protein bar for morning snack. For lunch I would have a slice of bread with a teaspoon of diet "butter". For your carbs and protein (6 oz chicken or fish plus a serving of low start vegetables esp. green. Afternoon snack of fruit/ Melba toast/ rice cake. For Supper a serving of protein + vegetable + carb (slice of bread w- diet marg or Melba toast) and serving of protein. It seems to me the body does best if you put protein first, low starch vegetables second and carbs last. sweet should only come from fruit (which should be only early in the day.

  • Hey everyone, so I follow the fat shredder diet plan from P90X, which is 50% protein, 30% carbs, 20% fats. I know I don't get in as many servings as vegetables as I need in a day. Any tips/recipes on how to incorporate more veggies into my diet???
