    Cinnamon and Weight Loss

Cinnamon has a regulatory effect on blood sugar levels and simultaneously increases insulin levels in the body. It imitates the biological activity of insulin and increases the metabolism of glucose. Since high blood sugar levels can lead to increased storage of fat by the body, cinnamon helps prevent this increased storage of fat and enables you to lose weight. In addition, it influences the manner in which sugar is metabolized by the body and prevents the transformation of the metabolized sugar into fat. Cinnamon also delays the passing of food from the stomach into the intestine. Hence, you feel satisfied for a longer time and eat less. This helps you lose weight. Cinnamon also helps the body to process carbohydrates more efficiently and this assists you in losing a few pounds. Studies show that abdominal fat is more sensitive to the effects of cinnamon than fat from other parts of the body.

Sorry that's just rubbish. If you could find some reputable science article to back it up you may have an argument. Just because it's on the internet does not mean it's true

It does help, it makes food delicious. In terms of calories, it won't do anything. Unfortunately, none of the literature I have seen evaluates if calories are consistent if there is an increase in weight loss.

What would help would be to stop looking for quick-fixes and magic beans and follow a rational nutrition plan.

According to readers digest, it does somewhat help. I don't think it's irrational to include cinnamon into your daily diet plan, what's the harm if it tastes good and it's healthy to boot.

Not sure, but it sure makes apple slices taste yummy...plus if you sprinkle too much on, you might be able to make some poof out of your nose when you eat the apple. That's fun.

RD is not really a reliable resource for medical advice.

After reading that it helps with blood sugar control, I have been including it in my diet (it may not help but it certainly isn't going to hurt). However, apparently all "cinnamon" isn't the same. The more common type sold in America is cassia cinnamon. It doesn't taste as good and it also does not contain the potential healthy benefits that ceylon cinnamon may.

I just bought a big bag of ceylon cinnamon and it smells so much better and has a sweeter flavor. Regardless of its health benefits, it is clearly a superior product.

While some dieting strategies are completely nuts, I don't think adding a teaspoon or two of cinnamon to my oatmeal or tea falls into that category. If it helps control my blood sugar YAY, if not, it definitely makes my morning oatmeal taste a whole lot better.
