Just wondering if anyone eats all organic or most or what. If so, how has it affected your weight loss/overall health? I'm reading Jillian Michaels Master Your Metabolism, its a great book so far. Very informative. Thanks!

I am all organic type person and although i"m now in maintenance, I would say that the one thing I noticed is that organic prepared food (example tomatoes sauce) has usually less sodium than the non-organic version ... and Sodium is my #1 ennemy as I was getting way too much. THis may not be a general thing, but this is something I"ve noticed for the things I eat.

The one thing that I found is that it's sometimes a bit harder to get low fat version (yogurt is no problem but cheese, I didn't find a lot of low fat cheese so learned to use the regular one, older so it has more taste and in smaller quantities; which at the end of the day is probably the right thing anyway.

    Good luck !

I eat roughly 80% organic, especially any dairy and produce. Have done this for two years, and this is the first time I've been able to maintain my weight loss for this long. Is organic better? We just don't know. The science isn't conclusive, mostly because we don't have any long-term studies yet. We know that pesticides aren't good for us (after all, they're neurotoxins ....they're designed to kill stuff), but we don't know how bad they are. That being said, its much better to eat lots of fruits and vegetables than to avoid them because they're not organic. Try to choose fruits/veggies that were grown in the US, as other countries may use pesticides that have been banned here. Locally produced stuff (Farmers Markets) is even better, and cheaper, and fresher than what you will find in the grocery store.

I'm in maintenance mode also. I also eliminated plastics and generally avoid canned products (BPA). The science on this is even more clear than pesticides -- BPA is estrogenic, which contributes to body fat. I absolutely believe this has contributed to my long-term maintenance of my weight loss this time, even in middle age. I liked Jillian Michaels book, although I'll probably get some flak for saying I don't *love* her style (especially after her weight loss supplement debacle). Thought most of what she said was said better in UltraMetabolism by Dr. Mark Hyman, a book which predated hers by several years.

I eat organic as much as possible and when it makes sense - for examples, banana's ? not always since you remove the peel. Blueberries - as often as possible. Rather than organic, I try to focus on natural and local - in other words, I read ingredient lists - if there are too many or it sounds like a science experiment, I tend to try and avoid. If I can support a local business or famer, even better. And I really try to to keep HFCS out of my diet - I switched brands on canned tomatos because of that - I mean, who needs to add HFCS to canned tomatos.. you should be able to just get tomatos :ohwell: .. I find that by concentrating more on the content, I am able to stay within budget and still feel good about what I get.
