how many days does it take for your body to go into starvation?
I'm asking because i've been on a somewhat restrictive diet for 26 days now and the last 2 days I have had little energy and started getting headaches.
Still managed to workout though.
I keep well hydrated all i drink is tea and water now, and lots of it!
My calorie count seems to average below 1000 and i'm not sure how to get it up without eating fast food, excessive carbs or drinking milkshake.
Any high calorie foods you can suggest?
Or vitamins i could possible be defficient in?
Or is there something else?
Also if anyone has any balanced meals for around 500cals could you post the recipe?

you're eating less than 1000 calories a day and you're exercising as well?
Are you tired of living or something?
I mean are you purposely starving yourself or do you mean you just can't manage to eat more than that?
I don't get it0 -
I just struggle to eat more than that. I have lost any desire to binge, I don't crave chocolate or crips or fizzy drinks so i can't find a way to make up those extra calories. I've started drinking glasses of milk but i can't really do more than two a day.0

So you're saying you used to live on junk and now that you've cut that out you don't want to eat at all?
If you're going to have that attitude you might as well go back to eating crap!
Seriously, get a recipe book and start cooking and looking after yourself because living like that is not going to end well.
What kind of take out did you like? Pizzas, curry, Chinese? You can cook all that stuff yourself at home with just a few healthy ingredients. You might even start to enjoy it.
Cooking doesn't have to take hours.... what's wrong with eggs, steaming some fish or roasting some veggies...? Pour some healthy oil over salad... olive oil is full of good fat and high calorie
If you really can't be a*rced preparing anything there are healthy high calorie quick fixes.... nuts, dried fruits, protein shakes/bars..... but I personally wouldn't live on them
I don't know what to say to you really..... if you want to be healthy you need to eat AND exercise... not just do one or the other.0 -
You seriously need to increase your calorie intake or you will feel like crap and not be healthy. As for meals with 500 calories there are sooo many. Go to a cooking lite website. They will probably do the nutrition breakdown for you and you will know exactly what you are getting. Remember your body is a machine and it requires so many calories for a reason. It needs it for fuel. This would be like never putting gas in a car and still expecting it to run.0

Eat healthy foods that are high in calories! If you eat salads, add in half a an avocado and thats an extra 130 calories (give or take) thats added into your diet. You can't just keep drinking milk, as that may be unnecessary if you have enough dairy throughout the day already. Eat nuts, as they are excellent for you and are high in calories. Add olive oil to salads or recipes because it's healthy oils but also makes up for calories. Just keep adding things, and soon your calories will add up! If you do have a glass of milk, maybe add in a tablespoon of honey!0

I never really had takeaway except the odd pizza my main downfall was processed food that i could freeze or would last for ages. (turkey dinosaurs, chicken dippers, chorizo etc.) and i used to eat a ridiculous amount of pasta.
I had to cut alot of stuff out because i couldn't moderate it, it was all or nothing, now im slowly starting to reintroduce foods like dairy and carbs, but only on certain days.
I didn't say i couldn't be arsed to cook I've started eating healthier meals the fact of the matter is eating healthier food has less calories
A chicken breast and an entire plate full of vegetables will come to about 350cal!
I'll try using oil and eating more nuts - Thanks Kelsie
There's no attitude here, just a will to learn how people here eat clean and meet there desired calorific intake.0 -
Are you a vegetarian or something? I think that the general consensus on this site is that you should be getting in at least 1200, especially if you're working out. Try adding things like nuts or whole grains to your diet. Your body can't possibly be getting everything it needs to thrive so definitely check out some recipes or look at others who have their diaries open and get some ideas.0

Your body is eating itself, my love, to keep you going and that's not good in the long run. The advice here to get yourself a good cook book and making up your meals from that is a very good idea, then you can always portion up the extras into say three separate portions and freeze them if you are living alone (like me and not in a family of four) then you will have a ready supply of food already prepared that you bulk out with plenty of fresh steamed or roasted veggies, pastas (wholemeal kinds) brown rice, quinoa, the easiest, cous cous (just boil a kettle and pour over leave for five mins and hey presto! yummy grub) or noodles, oh the variety is endless! You just need encouragement and the support here is great! If all else fails, buy yourself a decent slimming magazine, with its ready counted calories and meals all set out for you with coloured photos, recipe ingredients and methods of cooking/preparing. I buy Rosemary Conley's mag as its balanced with success stories and useful tips and hints and exercises, dressing for your shape etc.....good luck and keep posting here for support, oh and take a trip to your local health store; Holland & Barratt is mine, for a good vitamin AND minerals supplement, one a day pill to help your body recover. Good luck! :flowerforyou:0

You're a male and goal weight is 126lbs? I know skinny Girls who weigh more than that, what exactly are you going for?
Listen to me man, you're going to F up your metabolism if you continue on like this. Go find your TDEE and eat 300 less than that number, until you feel normal. Then if you stop losing weight subtract another 200. For a 500 cal deficit. That'll let you lose a pound a week. Use the calculator at IIFYM.com. Go for the IIFYM calculator0 -
Yeah my goal weight was a guess because it's on the NHS health chart and i'm really short but i'll stop whenever i get to a decent body fat %
I tried the tdee and it says i should eat 2703. This just seems really high I don't think I ate that much before.
Previously alot of my daily calories came from alcohol so i guess i'm struggling to imagine that amount of solid food but i'll get there.
Thanks for all your replies.0 -
