A vitamin may not be what you need. Have you spoken to your doctor? Persistent fatigue is frequently a symptom of an iron deficiency but I'm not a doctor, nor do i play one on TV or the Internet...

A simple blood test may answer your question far better than a bunch of random strangers can.

no calories in vitamins. energy comes from calories. calories comes from food.

if you have a serious lack of energy, look at your food first. a fun bonus is that good food contains all the vitamins you need.

This. A blood work test can determine what you are low on and what foods and vitamins you should be looking into.

Otherwise I take a multi from Trader Joe's, Fish Oil and then since from following my own advice I just gave you I am now taking a D and an Iron pill since both of those were low on my last blood test.

ummm.....won't clicking a button on the app tell her how much iron, and D, and whatever she's getting? she should get a blood test before checking what she eats?

ETA: I find it ironic that people are saying strangers can't tell you what's wrong with you, yet those same strangers will say you should go see a doctor because you said you are "tired".

I started taking multivitamins when I felt this way, I had all the tests etc and saw my dr and got no result other than 'normal' which was good but then way the hell was I so crazy tired. Still not sure. Feeing good now but don't know if it's from my vitamins?

I take a multivitamin (Swisse brand)
    Fish Oil
Vitamin D (on days I don't see much sun)

A quality diet should take care of most of your problems. Could you be anemic? I take iron supplements and sublingual B-12 - both are inexpensive.

Yeah, get bloodwork done, could be anything. I have more faith in food than vitamins for most people, though. Are you eating enough food?

Yip, I take iron and b12. Also zinc and vit c (but that's cause i got a crappy immune system and chronic sinusitis)
A blood screening would definitely tell you more but for most women iron is a safe bet

the reason women are saying this is because iron deficiency is very common even among women who eat enough of the right food. period. got it?

wouldn't that indicate they actually aren't eating the right amount of food?

It could be one reason - and I agree it should be looked at first, and is also probably the most ideal way for iron to be introduced if anemia's going on - but another (common) cause is monthly blood loss (which I tried to subtly suggest, lol). Use of an IUD can aggravate bleeding, too.

less common but still possible: celiac and other gi problems can make it hard to absorb iron even when there's enough ingested

Thank you. And I can not get over how cute your chocolate lab is. I miss mine that died a couple years ago!

I take a ridiculous amount of vitamins because of my digestive issues, but the one that I think makes the most difference is my multiple. I take Alive brand without extra iron. We have a local discount vitamin chain and I think it's about $35 for 180 tablets. Try Amazon or Ebay. They usually have things slightly cheaper then brick and mortar stores.

HAS ANYBODY ASKED THE OP HOW MUCH SLEEP SHE'S GETTING? HOW MUCH FOOD SHE'S EATING? OR WHAT TYPE OF WORKOUTS SHE'S DOING?

I love your voice of reason, Dave. Always spot on.

OP - go through the process of what he's suggesting in his posts first. Then if you don't find your answer, go to a doctor.

I get so fatigued when I don't take my vitamins! I take Ultra Woman from Vitamin World as my multi, and I take a B Complex vitamin, just the ones from Walmart. :) It helps my energy a lot! I also eat balanced meals and sleep at least 8 hours a night.

I agree with the idea that you should see a doctor and find out from them. Self diagnosing leads to problems and so does others giving you advice without being a doctor and knowing your medical history.

Personally when I had problems with exhaustion it ranged of asymptomatic insomnia to asthma problems to iron deficiencies to B vitamin deficiencies to an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder (that is still yet to be diagnosed btw) so honestly it is in your best interest to see a doctor and find out personally what could be going on rather than ask others for advice on it.

I had blood work done - not because of fatigue (tho that was a major issue, but because of other health issues. Found out I was severely deficient on vitamin D. I have lupus and can't spend a lot of time in the sun. I was put on a very high dose for six months, once a week pills and even after two my energy is so much better. And to think, I thought the fatigue was just my diet and having two kids! It's worth getting checked out if it is a major problem for you. I was falling asleep in the middle of work so for me, this new energy is a blessing!

I dont exercise (until tomorrow, I am starting) I eat ok and I need more sleep, so that is prob why I am tired BUT I have heard that EVERYONE should take a multi vitamin, that it is like taking an insurance policy on your life. I am not a hard core health nut although I would like to aspire to be some day. I cant even figure out the mathematics of calories vs exercise TDEE(whatever that is) I was just curious what brand was the best for a multi vitamin or what everyone else was taking

    OP:

I can tell you I take a B-complex and that certainly helps with my metabolism and alertness. I work 80 hours a week so I need all the help I can get. I have had iron deficiency anemia since I was a child... it's genetic and my mother has it. I also take iron supplements. I had bloodwork drawn last year and it re-confirmed my iron deficiency.

Low iron and low thyroid hormones certainly cause fatigue. But they also cause weight gain. Bloodwork wouldn't hurt just to see if that's why you are tired when nothing else changed in your life.

Otherwise, a few more carbs or protein in your day helps. And the B complex also helped me.
