just curious, ladies-- when you see a guy swimming and he is wearing a t-shirt do you think it's strange or do you think he is hiding something or do you not even think about it?

I often think they're uncomfortable with their bodies hence the t-shirt. When I was chubbier I wore t-shirts too.0
-
I think they lack self confidence and feel sad for them.0
-
Dont think about it one way or the other. A shirt would help from getting a sun burn. I see lots of young men wearing the SPF shirts.4
-
They also may sun burn easily.
I always put a rash guard shirt on my son, and hope he wears one for a long time to come.. we are a family of pale skin and freckles, (and my son has red hair), so any protection from the sun is needed!3 -
You can't really hide much once it's wet.
I'll bet some guys wear them for other reasons than weight, too.0 -
as I used to be one of those guys, it was because I felt ugly. Plus it didnt help when your kids and other kids used to pick on you for having a big belly and moobs. As I got older I have gotten over it and I understand if a guy wants to wear a shirt so I really dont care.1

I took my daughter to swim class this weekend and noticed a lot of this.
I didn't know it was such a phenomenon. Multiple fathers, as well as their sons were wearing surf shirts with their swim trunks. One was wearing a cotton T shirt.
I was the one that was out of place shirtless.0 -
I wore a white tshirt over my swimsuit when I was really big. It was from insecurity and not wanting to feel exposed. Generally, I think people who do that (men included) think the same way, though it is just an assumption.0

i'm the t-shirt at the pool guy ....this year i graduated to a wifebeater but hey maybe by August i'll be full shirtless. I dont think its an insecurity thing, i dont like seeing other dudes in all their glory so why would i want to be that guy giving people shivers0

I'm not perfect but I've got the body that I've been working my *kitten* off to get and I'll take my shirt off at the pool. Even when I was heavier and less in shape, I would still go shirtless. I think it's a little weird but to each their own.
Quite frankly if a man isn't comfortable with how they look shirtless, they should do something about it. That's why we're on this site, right? No more making excuses.0 -
I don't wear a shirt in the pool, but I will wear one when not in the pool for the same reason that I wear a hat on my bald head...so I don't burn.
However...I leave my sweater on even in the pool.0 -
i don't wear a shirt in the water.. however.. i almost alway have on a skirt or wrap.. im very embarrased still about my upper legs and waist.0

I don't notice, if it is a rashguard. If it's an undershirt, I always wonder if he actually planned to go swimming that day or is just winging it in his undershirt.
I'm in decent shape, but I will still wear board shorts over my suit if it's a pool party/amusement park setting. Helps me to not worry about bending over to help my kids out and blinding some poor stranger. Just-the-suit is for laps.1 -

^^ agree. If it is outside and they look fair skinned I would assume it was also a sun issue. But if it is a self confidence issue I say put it out there boys and girls. I never felt that way until I went to Italy. They make size 42 bikinis and women were wearing them. Plus I have also decided that fat looks better with a tan! Confidence is sexy!1 -
I remember that my church in middle school made the women wear T-shirts over their swim suits at a pool party. SOoooOOOoOOo lame.0

at the charter school. girls are to wear one piece bathing suits to the field day.. if they were a two piece they need to wear a t-shirt. they are very stritct with the dress codes. the boys can go shirtless. (although most don't)0 -
I think that either they're uncomfortable showing their tummies or, like me, they are set aflame by the dimmest ray of sunlight...1
-
I don't think anything of it.0

Same here! I used to always wear tee-shirts when I went swimming.0 -
I've got a flabby belly and a scary scar from some surgery a while back but I go ahead and take the shirt off. Once I'm in the water, it's not too bad. When I get back in shape, maybe I'll leave it off once I get back out!0

I just go swimming wearing floaties on my arms and steel toed work boots on my feet. Nobody really says much about my shirt anymore...1

THiS^^^^^0 -
I don't blame them. I've never worn a t-shirt because I thought it looked awful in the water/after swimming but I won't wear bikinis. Don't think I should... I like tankinis. Maybe a one piece if it was flattering.1
-
It doesnt bug me... whatever they are comfy with!0

I have my 3 sons wear a rash guard when in the pool, b/c they are so light skinned. I'e seen older men wear shirts, but never really thought much about it. As long as they are comfortable with what their wearing, and not letting stuff hang out, then Im cool with it.0
-
Heck I am a lady and I wear a tee in the water .. I really , really , really hate the sun.0

I go to the pool and I just started wearing a tank top with my board shorts. I'm actually looking into getting some rashguard shirts which may look a little better from a fashion stand point. I think that males should wear shirts at the pool for a number of reasons. Using a shirt to prevent sun-burn is a good reason. If someone insecure with themselves you can where a shirt as well but every should be secure with themselves because that is what make you different. I'm a average guy and I am very secure with my body. I enjoy working out to stay in shape but I wear a shirt to cover up my chest area which should be acceptable. I think it is only fair for a guy to cover up his chest if a female does the same with a bikini top. Guys should not have to expose their chest if they don't want too, plus males should start leaving a little more to the imagination, I think.0

Maybe they do it for the other swimmers...not everyone wants to be inflicted with the sight of a hairy back, whale belly, and man-boobs.2

My brother wears a t-shirt when he's in the pool and I find it a little weird since he's not overweight. Guess he don't want ladies to look at his body, LOL.0
