Watching "Extreme Weight Loss"

Friggin' depressing realizing I way as much or more than the people on this show.

Yah I'm in the same boat.
Sucks to see TV shows where they basically show the person as someone who is unable to function when they weigh 50 lbs less than me.
At least we're rectifying the problem and we don't need surgery or a crew of trainers to do it. Just some will power and hard work.0 -

Kudos to both of you for making the commitment on your journey to optimal health.
I think that some of the programs on TV can actually be a downer instead of motivating - as the majority of us don't have access to such resources.
We must focus on the positive and carry on the best we can knowing that everyday will not be perfect.

There was a thread about this before and people were all inspired by it, I found it awful. On the episode with the twin brother and sister, he got frustrated and yelled something like, "I don't want to workout for four hours everyday like you!" Who has time to workout for four hours everyday??? It's the same thing with The Biggest Loser. They are working out for 4-6 hours every single day.
How is that realistic if you still want to have a life?
A few years ago I did Weight Watchers and their message boards were filled with people who were disappointed that they were "only" losing 1-3 pounds each week. They would say, "But they are losing double digits every week on Biggest Loser. What am I doing wrong?" My jaw dropped open this past week when the woman "only" lost 30+ pounds in 3 months and he told her she missed her goal of 50 pounds down. I'd freakin LOVE to lose 30 pounds in 3 months!
Anyway, I wouldn't let these shows get you down. Like all reality shows, they are so completely unrealistic for the general population. When you get to your goal, you'll know you did it the healthy, realistic way and be more of an inspiration to those around you then any TV show could every be.0 -
I know what you mean and I feel the same way. Some random thoughts:
I often wonder if I should be working out 4 hours a day, maybe specifically not gym stuff but do the elliptical machine for an hour then swim for an hour, go home eat something then go hiking for an hour, then go ride my bike for an hour. Would it make a difference? Keep moving no matter what activity. Alas I do have to work so this would be tough to pull off.
I wonder how a lot of these people look after a few years? Do Biggest Loser contestants keep off the weight they lost? Surely they must still struggle, how do they handle it? Do they still work out a lot?
The shows are definitely a big motivator for me, I won't stop watching.0
