Getting back into shape after illness

I am new to this site, I am hoping to lose weight and also be supported by and support those in this community. Last year was a bit of a rough year. I was continuously in and out of the hospital dealing with an illness. I have been given a "clean bill" of health by my doctor and now I am trying to motivate myself to take control of my weight. The constant illness and depression from the illness wreaked havoc on my health and weight. I am now trying to become healthier and stronger. I hope to meet and learn from this community. I, like everyone on MFP can use support and encouragement.
Thanks

Welcome, Raven. By easing into exercise and making healthier food choices you'll be on the road to looking and feeling great. I had some health issues going on last fall, was hospitalized, and had surgery. It took some time to get back into exercising. I had to start out with short walks until I regained some strength. Give yourself the time you need to get better.

Hi Raven...I am new to this site and like you I have had my share of medical issues...I am getting back on track and look forward to sharing ideas and testimonies....we can do it..I find it truly amazing to see and track my eating habits....I think this is a great way to actually see what we are doing to ourselves each time we indulge into our comfort foods...I was very cleaver with choosing different restaurants and now a particular grocery store which caters to my heart desires for treating myself to all of my favorite foods, chocolate, sushi, red velvet cupcakes, and so forth....but now that I am required to track it, I am being held accountable.....and that is the key for me......good luck....

I can totally relate. The last few years I would get bronchitis and pneumonia every other month. It seriously affected my ability to exercise. Then last November I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer and while going through chemo and then my double mastectomy I stopped exercising completely. I was simply too exhausted and too sick to try.

I'm now in remission (yay!) and trying to get back into shape. My fitness level was reduced so much from 6 months of being very sedentary that now my top walking speed on the treadmill is less than what my warm up speed was before. Pitiful. I've taken quite a few steps back on strength training too. It's going to take a long time to get back to where I was but I'm trying.

Feel free to add me as friend if you would like.
