I've stopped losing weight!

I've been monitoring calories (in a spreadsheet) for the past 3 months until someone told me about this site. However, despite following the general guidelines carefully, I've not lost any weight in the last 5 weeks - this has coincided with me increasing my exercise levels significantly (around 5 hours per week - high intensitive - soccer, running and cycling - plus the usual regular dog walking and work) Getting frustrated at lack of progress - that said, I'm getting fitter and trousers are probably looser....

If you are getting fitter and your clothes are fitting better then you know you are making progress, the scale will follow. Just stick with it and dont give up. Make sure you continue to track all of your food and exercise. You can do this.0

I've noticed that too.. I actually gained back two pounds but lost a pant size?? It doesn't make sense to me either but I would rather look better than have a lower number on the scale for now..everyone sees me but they don't know my weight.0

Did you increase your caloric consumption when you increased your activity level? If not, your body may be holding on to weight because it isn't getting enough fuel. If you search "eating exercise calories" using the search tool in the community tab, you will get plenty of info that will help you figure things out.0

I am in the exact same pickle weight seems to have plateaued but my clothes are feeling loser. I am sticking to 1200k a day and doing my exercise. I think the trick is to just stick with it. As monkey said everyone notices how great you look and no one knows your weight, i am more toned and fitter than ever. i need to forget the scales too!0

You are already making progress....if your pants are too big for you. Well Done.
It depends on how much you would like to lose...it you are close to your goal weight, you may find progress a little slower than If you had a lot of weight to lose.
How is your water intake? Drink plenty of water every day and this WILL help....it was the key to my success!
Also, you may need to eat some or all of those exercise calories...you don't want to be restricting your bodys nutritional intake.
Can I also ask? How many calories were you allowing yourself each day throughout those 3 months?? If it was any less than 1200...I'm afraid you have been keeping them too low. Yes, that's right....sometimes you need to eat MORE to lose weight! :flowerforyou:
Good Luck and welcome to this site...feel free to add me as a buddy :flowerforyou:0 -

I'm having the same problem too. Thanks! I will look this up!!0 -
First of all - thanks to everyone who has replied to this post (my first ever!). Comments all gratefully recieved!
To answer some of the questions - I've been managing this using a spreadsheet which was less sophisticated than this site - but I did increase my calories when the exercise increased - looking back at the data I was averaging around 1600 to 1700 calories per day (Net i.e. taking off the number of exercise calories - so typically eating around 2200 to 2400 calories but burning in the region of 600 to 1000 per day).
In the first 8 weeks of doing this (with my spreadsheet) I lost around 10 or 11 pounds. During the last 5 weeks I've hovered around 12 pounds above my target weight., (Last year I did this and lost around 20 lbs - so it's a long term project and I'm getting close!
I'm probably not great on the water front though so thanks for that suggestion.
I'm going to research the use of multi-vitamins as well, since using this site, it would appear that I'm a bit low on the Iron front as well as Calcium...
Will let you know how this week goes.0 -
This has happened to me a few times!
What works for me is a few different things, but the best were these two: I switched up what I was doing at the gym. I started doing classes instead of just working out at the gym. I also started doing less weight training and more cardio, which helped. Also, I upped my calorie intake by about 300 for two days and then dropped it back down and it seems to jolt my body into losing weight again.0 -
your metabolic rate has probably slowed from eating few calories, what you do...I learned this at curves and it works!...
Add about 400 calories more every day, but, you must split this into 3 meals and 2 snacks, and make sure that you eat no more than 1 hour after waking up, and your last meal should be at least 2 hours before bedtime. This has worked for me before, your metabolism will jump back up and you'll be a calorie burning machine...seriously. The minute that you gain more than 3 pounds, you get right back on your "diet" of a little less calories (1200) for me it's 1400 I'm tall.
Good Luck!!0
