Milk / Cream in tea or coffee?

Just curious....

After looking at some peoples food logs, I've noticed hardly anyone logs milk / cream / sugar in their beverages.

Do people still drink tea / coffee?

Do you drink it black?

Do you drink it but not log the calories?

I drink both tea and coffee (milk in both). I count one cup of milk per day to allow for the calories.

What do other people do?

I generally log coffee when I drink it or at least I log the sugar/cream/whatever I put in it. I may not bother logging the actual coffee since it has zero impact on calories, it just depends on my mood. I drink unsweet tea or water usually (in fact I had unsweet tea this morning) but I don't log those unless I'm feeling particularly ocd.

I have tea with milk and coffee with milk as pre-saved recipes and leg each cup I have.

I use full fat dairy now so those calories do add up.

I drink my morning coffee black. I drink my afternoon iced coffee with sugar and half & half, and sometimes top it with whipped cream. Everything gets logged.

I log my creamer. I don't log the coffee though, lol.

Everyday, you'll see 4 - 8 T of creamer in my breakfast section. For tea, I use Splenda and I don't log either the Splenda or the tea.

I drink my tea and coffee with sugar, but I log only the sugar packets since they have 0 calorie. So whenever you see 'sugar' on my log, you can bet that was tea or coffee.

I have at least 2 cups of coffee daily and use organic grass fed 35% fat cream (2-3 tbsp per cup). No sugar or sweatener. I cut that *kitten* out a long time ago! I dont log often, but know that I get about 200 calories per 4 tbsp of the cream. I dont really worry about calories in and calories out, so hence the reason that I dont often log my food.

I drink it and I log it. I use about 1 tbsp of half and half and a sweet & low in my coffee. It's barely any calories so I won't cut it out, but I try to log everything I eat to keep myself honest :)

I generally drink it black. When I don't (in the case of soy chai lattes etc), I log it.

If I do tea I almost always drink it plain. Chai and green tea are pretty great by theirselves.

Coffee I usually add some coconut oil or coconut milk to.

If you add it, log it.

I use sugar free flavored creamer so I don't add additional sweetener/sugar and usually use less than I would if I was using milk. I log it when I drink it, but I've tried to cut back on coffee because while it keeps my appetite at bay for a while, once it comes back, it's with a vengeance!
  • I drink my coffee black, have cut back my cups of tea to 4 per day (from dozens!) and log 20 calories per cuppa and drink more water with squash to make it more palatable (and log the squash too).

I drink at a minimum of 2 cups coffee everyday, I add 1/4cup unsweetened almond milk and (1) trivia per cup coffee. I do log my coffee and almond milk but not the trivia. there's not many calories in that, I believe it's about 28 calories for 2 cups total.
  • Creamer and sugar can add 100 calories or more to the value of coffee so it should get logged. Additionally, people should really actually use a tablespoon to accurately measure how much they are putting in. I found my usual splash of creamer was in fact almost 4 tablespoons accounting for over 100 calories. I've since decreased it to an actual 2 tablespoons. I also add chocolate protein powder to my first cup to make it an effective use of calories.
Side note: Whey protein will chunk up if the coffee is too hot. If this is happening to you, let the coffee sit a few minutes, cool slightly with an ice cube, or add cold creamer in first, then add the protein powder. It's a great protein drink with caffeine kick!

I drink two types of tea with milk and sugar - chai and earl grey. I've saved them as recipes (but, I mean, I called them "lattes" so you can assume they have milk in them). Sometimes I use whole milk (yummmmm), so I have two versions of the recipe - whole and 1%. I use a tsp of sugar and a few drops of stevia to sweeten. Almost any other tea I don't use milk, and if I sweeten iced tea or a herbal it's with stevia only so I rarely bother logging it.

why are you using full fat dairy?
Not sure who this is addressed too but I use heavy whipping cream because a little goes a long way, it has less sugar, tastes good, etc.

Oh, I also heard something about the vitamins in skim milk/1% have to be added back in whereas if you use full fat dairy they are naturally present, so that's a benefit. Heavy cream has vitamin A. Also without fat, the body cannot absorb vitamin A or D properly. Or calcium, for that matter. or the amino acids in milk. Cream itself has very little calcium, otoh (but I'm a cheese fiend so not worried about that!).
  • I drink both tea and coffee. I used to use a LOT of creamer in my coffee, but has slowly weaned myself off it. I really enjoy my coffee black now. Never used sugar in tea.

I only put Splenda in my coffee, I stopped with creamer long ago because I didn't want to spend the calories on drinks. Every once in a great while I do the single serve creamer and I do log that, it's about 30 calories
