I've tried everything else so I may as well try this too. I'm a master at the "yo-yo" effect but now I'm too old with too many heart problems to take the good old fashioned weight loss miracles - drugs, effedrine, etc!

I'm craving chocolate, barbecue ribs, and anything sweet. Any suggestions?

Log everything that you eat. If you bite it-write it. If you know you are going to have chocolate or ribs one day then enter it in to your diary ahead of time. Then you know how many cals you can have at other meals. Hold yourself accountable and remember that you do not have to deprive yourself of things you enjoy, just don't over-do it. Good luck to you!

There are NO weight loss miracles . . . just good old fashioned dedication and hard work. I like to live by the outlook of "did my grandparents eat this"? We have turned back time at my house and only eat completely "clean" and healthy . . . so absolutely NO prepared foods . . . Im even making our BBQ sauce from scratch now.
I love to cook (and eat) but now cook with flavor, herbs and spices, and not fat. It is an amazing difference.

    Welcome to MFP!

I do this all the time...it's the best thing I've found that works for me to stay within my range.

Only you can get you fit, but MFP is a great tool to help keep you on track. I'm a yo-yo dieter too (this is around the 5th time in my life that I've lost a significant amount of weight. I now feel more in control of my food. A book I'd really recommend is "I Can Make You Thin" by Paul McKenna.

Lose the 'all or nothing' attitude that sees you yo-yo diet. You know what I mean - you have a few 'bad' days so you give up and put any weight lost back on. Even thin people have days where they eat too much! I've lost over 50lbs since Christmas and there have been PLENTY of days where I've eaten too much. Forgive yourself when you eat too much.

    Good luck xxx

Hi! guess we could be twin sisters; my diet and health problems are like yours, but we both need to work on this fitness thing. I understand where you are coming from. I've just started today, and I can't let this time fail; neither can you; so lets stick to this and make it work. This pep talk I'm giving you, is me telling myself, too. :flowerforyou:

Nothing in this world works for everyone but MFP certainly works for me! It was a chore to chart food and excercise before but thanks to the app, I now do it daily and it gets easier the more you do it. I am gradually working my way down to a healthy weight - I am 16 months into my journey but when I get there, I will have the tools to stay there. I have not been so physically fit for a couple of decades!

Thanks to others on the boards, I have read about things that I would otherwise never have heard about and tried exercises I might never have tackled (did a 50 minute rowing class for the first time yesterday which burned well over 500 Calories and was loads of fun into the bargain). I have also learned that portion control is good and trying to live with cravings is bad for me. So I still have chocolate, pizza, a glass of wine, et cetera from time to time but I don't pig out (or have them all on the same day) as I might have done if I "fell off the waggon" when trying to lose weight in the past .

I think this is a very good place to learn about different approaches and find your own way to achieve your goals, plus there is a lot of support from people who are going through a similar experience. Strongly recommended!

PS I have also found Paul McKenna's book and CD to be very helpful
