Good morning smessersmith
I think I am going to give this a try. I am also going to take a lesson with my friend:blushing: . My plan is to lose 20 pounds by my 15th Anniversary and surprise my hubby with a dance. This is something I don't normally do, but I thought it would be fun.
Gave him a lap dance on our 2nd Anniversary. It was so embarrassing, but he ENJOYED it.
Thanks for the info.
Friendship,

That makes me so happy...I hope you love it...if you do, I also know a really good instructional DVD series by a Russian Dancer out of New York named "Neon"...she gives the best bellydance instruction...she has a 2 DVD set called "Crash Course in Belly Dance"...she teaches the moves and how to combine them...they are alot sexier than the workout DVDs and this is where you could learn and put some moves together for your husband...live classes are so enjoyable but you might not learn the sexy stuff right away...Bellydance can be incorporated into a lap dance as well...
Let me know how you like the class your going to take with your friend...the Bellydance community in my hometown is a wonderful Sisterhood...hope it is for you too!

My pleasure...Bellydance is the oldest feminine art form...people don't realize what a good workout it is...plus it is just so enjoyable...you have to practice to get the benefits...when you do spend time at it you'll feel like you were getting a weight training workout and cardio at the same time...I take classes once a week because that's what I can afford...if you can afford more thats fabulous...If you go to more than one class I suggest taking classes from a variety of instructors...this way you develop your own style vs. becoming a mirror of your teacher...I practice at home via DVD workouts and instructors...sometimes I just turn the music on an dance...I 3/4 shimmy when walking around the house...shimmy while washing dishes...etc...my dog loves it when I dance and he loves the music...I can't wear my hipscarve when I dance at home, he thinks I'm playing with him and it becomes a game of tugowar...my boyfriend loves it too...I catch him behind me in the mirror acting silling and doing some of the moves...he said he loves it when I dance because he can see how happy I am dancing.
Let me know how it goes and if you love it...I hope you do,

sm,
No comment on my fave entertainer, Shak?? One look at her and you know bellydance is the way to go. I've seen her live twice and she is incredible. I know she wears herself out and collapses after performing. You would love her live show on DVD.
Thanks again for the information!

Thanks for the info but my daughter just bought one we are going to try out. It's about drum solo's. That will take awhile. It's hard to get to a class in the winter but I have so many dvd's I could use a different one everyday. Icandoit, thats a great idea for a present to your husband, maybe I'll try that too. He'd be super surprised thats for sure. :bigsmile:0

Hello Dancers!
Drum solo is quite a cardio workout! Let me know what you all are working out with...I enjoy hearing what you all are up to.
Just bought Neon's, "Crash Course in Bellydance", 2 DVD set (3 hours of instruction) for my daughterinlaw and Neon's, "Bellydance Party", for my niece.
Happy Holidays, (Christmas for me), to all of you!

Hi SM:
I have just finished by first course in bellydancing and totally love it. My new class will start in january but I want to incorporate more practise at home.
I am looking for a DVD which will allow me to drill the moves I need to master - shimmies, belly rolls, hip twists etc. Will the Neon 2DVD set do this? Anything else you can recommend?
I will buy the Neon one if you think this is the best. There seems to be a few Neon ones - are they all good?
Awaiting your advice!0 -
I'm so excited! I just received 'Instant BellyDancer' a crash course in belydance, with Neon. I'm going to try it today, and I'll report back.
