Binge Eating

By using this site I'm slowly (very slowly it seems) starting to figure out my issues with being overweight. I'm wondering if anyone is guilty of binge eating... not just a cheat day here and there, but binging where you can't seem to get enough and then finally going back to normal and hitting the gym, having little trouble eating healthy and then back to binging again in this weird cycle. Maybe its stress? Maybe it is just habit/routine? I dunno...

I have actually been diagnosed with food addiction and binge eating disorder so I know exactly what you mean. You really have to work on overcoming your unhealthy relationship with food in order to succeed. I am still working on myself, it is very hard.

I know my binge eating is because of stress/anxiety. So frustrating. The other day for the first time I actually talked myself out of doing it but it's really hard. I feel your pain.

I think I am the same way, even thought I found the word "binging" for the first time on this site a month ago. What helped me at the beginning -- if I have a feeling to stuff myself, I pull something healthy -- nuts, celery, gluten free muffins from the freezer, etc. I will still go over my calories on those day, but at least I knew that I am getting some benefit from what I put into my body. Later, when I totally removed all processed food from my diet, I started paying more attention to the culture of eating. Serving table for every meal helps a lot. Another surprising thing that helped me -- coincidently I was reading the book to my daughters "New Manners for New Times" by Letitia Baldriges. I took a lot from that book about culture of eating -- serving table, table manners, etc. (something that we always forget when we eat at home). I found out that it works very well for me. When I serve my meal nicely, in the nice china, on the covered table, with small portion on the plate and eat it very slowly -- I have no desire to stuff myself .Eating consciously, concentrating only on the food helps a lot. I found my triggers for binging too -- laptop, book or newspaper during meal makes me usually seat at the table forever and look for something to munch on even after the dinner. So, I totally stopped doing it and now read newspapers, book only outside the kitchen or dining room. Hope it helps! Remember, it is all in your head!
