Anyone In the Phoenix, AZ area

I live in Phoenix AZ and if anyone is here also they know the struggle I go through sometimes in getting motivated to workout with all this heat. No one wants to run when it's 110 outside, swimming has become my fall back plan for weightloss but sometimes it's too hot even for that. Anyone have any ideas for working out in this heat. let me know.

I'm in Tucson. I work out at home, in my living room with the AC and the fan on full force. There's also a huge fitness center where I work, which I should use but I don't. Swimming is almost pointless....it's too much of a hassle to put on sunscreen, it doesn't really balance out with the pool not being very cool anymore. I walk and play outside from October through April, but not this time of year. No way!

I'm in the Globe area...and while we are a bit cooler than you, I feel it is still too hot as well....besides I work most every day of the week now and it is not safe where I am to work out after I get off...basically, I just get my "exercise" at the office, as I can...

I'm in Phoenix and I understand completely where you are coming from! I feel bad because I don't want to complain because it comes out sounding like an excuse to not work out, but because it's disgustingly hot outside it makes everything unbearable! Swimming is good, workouts that you can do from home are good. Zumba, 30 Day Shred, etc etc. What I miss most about the cooler weather is hiking!!!!!!! I'm counting down the months until November. LOL Feel free to add me if you'd like! :)

< Phoenix :) Ahwatukee. Plenty of fit people around here (I think our Pastor once made a joke about how we have all these triathletes but all make a beeline for the close parking spots>) You CAN totally get fit here. Actually being in Phoenix was much much easier to work out than when I lived near Cleveland - and I never wanted to brave the cold and snow to go work out.

I do hike, either 4:45 AM or 6:45 PM. I do zumba and weight training indoors.

If I want to be outside I try to get out about 5am, but mostly I work out in my fitness classes. I love Zumba and Cardio Kickboxing. Where do you live in Phoenix?

    Hi,

I live in Phx too. I love doing YouTube videos. There are so many to choose from. It is so easy because you can do it in the comfort of your home and be in doors with air conditioning. You can't beat that.

Thanks for all the replies, I actually didnt think I would get any lol. Now with my schedule I am somewhat lucky and get to work out at 1am after work. And my work has a gym inside, but i hate running on treadmils and I love hiking. And as you all agree doing anything outside this time of year is a huge no go :( . I heard there is an indoor wall climbing center in scottsdale but i havnt been there yet. Anyone know anything about it?

Your profile says you have kids, have you guys been to Jump Street yet? There are a couple of trampoline parks here. That could be a fun and cooler way to burn some calories :)

Yes we have been to jump street, and of course the kids loved it. The place is actually pretty fun, nothing like a trampoline to really let you know just how out of shape you are lol.

    Tempe, here.

One word: Gym. It's the only way I can do it. It's so worth it. Gold's Gym is only $15/month, I'm sure anyone could scrape up that much extra per month if they made it a priority. (This is coming from a SAHM with no job or income. Somehow I make it work.)

Thankfully with my job and hours now, i get to go to a gym and run outside when its not too hot out. One of the biggest downfalls though is having to hit the gym a 1am. granted there is no one there to get in the way but I have to be up every morning at 7 with my kids. So on average I only get about 4-5 hours of sleep, so by the end of the week or even a couple weeks into it, I hit a wall of pure exhaustion.

I live in Scottsdale... I think the indoor climbing place is called On the Rocks, it's over by the ice den. I too find summer workouts challenging, but working out in the pool seems to be such a release for me, and I can't wait to get back into the water before it becomes a tepid bathtub. I had some surgery and am slowly healing. I belong to a gym and just working out there in the a/c is pretty good. You do feel kind of gross with all the sweat though. I have a dog that requires walking twice a day, we try to go around 7am and 7pm to avoid the sun. Sounds awful getting to the gym at 1am? That's devotion! Feel free to add me as a friend!
  • I'm in Gilbert. The heat sucks so I've been running at 5AM to avoid it.

I do Zumba by YouTube, I love it because you can pic the song, routine and the instructor that you like. My kids really enjoy doing it with me.

Trying to figure that out myself. I know some gyms have pools. Also I know at my aunt's house if we go swimming after the sun goes down it is not so bad. My aunt suggested the town rec centers instead of the Y's. Said they are cheaper than most gyms and have most of the same stuff as a gym. I just moved recently, so I am researching out all the local stuff again.

Hi did you know you can burn up to 764 calories swimming for 1 hour! I am in Glendale, AZ and I have found swimming and the treadmill as my back up plan.
