Eating...

So as of Monday I've just started adding some exercise to my life since I work in an office all day. I've started walking on breaks & lunch(somewhere between 1.6 & 3 miles a day) and I've also just started Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred on Monday. Previously I was eating around 1250/1340 calories a day(mind you, I sit ALL day and was not doing any exercise...) and I have not changed my calorie goal because I don't feel that I'm any hungrier. In fact, I'm LESS hungry now...
I typically eat 3-6 egg whites for breakfast with a laughing cow cheese wedge melted in, for a mid morning snack I eat either cottage cheese or string cheese(I live in WI, give me a break!), for lunch I've been eating a huge salad(just the bagged mixed greens... with cheese, croutons and a low cal dressing), then around 2/3 I'll eat some fruit and dinner is either a big steak or chicken with veggies... or a bowl of cereal. Sometimes I feel like I'm STUFFED at the end of the night, but I still have a lot of calories left after burning 300-500 calories a day. (sometimes I only net around 450)... What should I be doing differently??? I do not like to feel full and bloated, therefor don't think that I should just eat for the sake of eating and then be uncomfortable. I also drink approx 75-90 ounces of water a day, which I think also might be contributing to my feeling full.
This is my first week with my new changes and I just purchased a Polar FT4 HRM so that I can accurately track my calories burned, so any advice would be great!!! By the way, I'm 27, 5'4 and looking to lose around 15-20 lbs.

I can completly relatet to how you are feeling. By the end of the workday, i feel like I don't want to eat dinner as i feel all I have done all day is eat. For me personally, I have added in some protein shakes and or protein bars to get my caloric intake up. I don't know if that is the right thing, but I also don't want my body to be in a starvation mode or my metabalism be messed up.
Good luck you seem to we doing great!0 -
(jendemi, we're almost goal twins according to our tickers! :flowerforyou: )
If you aren't afraid of fats, and you shouldn't be in my opinion, try adding avocados, nuts, nut butters, leaving the yolks in your eggs. Protein shakes and smoothies are also a good way to add calories without stuffing yourself so much.0 -
I love avocados and a lot of times add them to my salads... yolks would be a good way to get more calories, I didn't think of that. Thank you!0

I used to eat a lot of protein bars, however they just don't seem appealing to me anymore.0

I also make fresh juices at home to get in nutrients and add protein powder to them. Avacados are my favorite! I eat them with almost everything!0

I am in the same boat as far as having calories remaining. I feel like I'm eating more since I'm working out more?? Or maybe it is just the tracking that makes me feel that way. I want to focus on nutrition and not just calories, but I'm worried I am stalling out my metabolism as well by not eating enough. I didn't lose this week at weigh in..I gained a pound, but I'm hoping it was muscle and the weight will start falling off again next week. I stay at home with three kids so it is a miracle to actually eat at all. I hate eating late at night, but sometimes it will be 8pm and I have 600 calories remaining. That's crazy!0

A lot of times, I'll use nuts as a way of reaching calorie and fat goals. I like to throw almonds or walnuts on salads for dinner to up the calories without leaving me feeling bloated. On the Insanity diet, I'm eating about 2200 calories a day, most of which is at home after my twelve hour shift, so I do tend to feel like I'm stuffing myself. Calorie dense foods (nuts, avocados, full fat cheese, etc.), when used in moderation, can be a big help.0

Ladies I think this is a common problem with us! For me, I've found that the key is to eat regular small portions of food as opposed to a few big meals. If you sit at a desk all day, measure out some higher calorie snacks that you can munch on while you work - nuts are perfect.
Also, as someone already mentioned, making sure you get lots of healthy fats is a good way to increase your calories as well - these should be coming from nuts/nut butters, healthy oils, avocados and fish.0
