I've been thinking about (after this pregnancy at least) starting heavy lifting but I'm just worried that I will get bulky I've heard stories of women who did do heavy lifting and didn't bulk up at all but got nice lean looking muscles and look great and that's what I want I do want to have some muscle definition but not get too big. So, do any of you have pics before and after or even just after what your results were and how heavy do you lift, what's your routine etc. Thanks :-)

i lift heavy and regularly increase weights (currently curling 10kg for example) you get tighter and have to work damn hard to gain any size. What you do gain is a higher metabolism, a firm shape and flat tummy. You cannot imagine how long people like Jamie Eason etc had to train to gain muscle mass as women have woefully low levels of testosterone compared to men. Grab those weights, your body will thank you for it0

Here's mine from last month. I haven't lost a lot of weight on the scale, but have lost some inches and everything has been tightening up.

I don't have many before pictures as I did not start taking pictures until after I lost the weight. BIG MISTAKE. One thing I wish I could go back and tell myself - TAKE PICTURES!!! But I have 2 kids....here are a couple from the last few weeks:

Be really careful. If you lift heavy stuff you might end up looking like this. We can't have that....
If you lift heavy for years AND do large amounts of anabolic steroids AND have very specific genetics, you look more like this (what some might call "bulky"):

Thanks for all the great responses, now I'm really looking forward to starting!!!! Yay for motivation!!!!!0

Women don't bulk up because we don't have the same levels of testosterone as men. Lifting heavy will give you lean, healthy, toned muscles that fit your body frame. If you see photos of women that look bulky, like pro bodybuilders, they are most likely taking supplements that allow their body to develop that much muscle mass and following extreme exercise & diet regimens
Check out before and after pics from ChaLean Extreme - the program includes lifting 30+ pounds in some exercises for 12 reps. I completed 5 weeks of it in 2011 before stopping due to an injury (not caused by working out). I had been doing cardio & strength training for 4 months before starting CLX - I lost more inches and was more toned after 5 weeks of CLX than 4 months of cardio & using 8lbs or less handweights to strength train. I don't have pics on hand but I had never been so toned! Muscle burns more calories than fat so the more muscle you have, the higher your BRM, the quicker you lose fat. Also, muscle is much more dense than fat so you appear thinner than your actual body weight when you add muscle & lose fat. When I'm toned, I wear the same size as when I'm 20 pounds lighter & not toned.
I'm currently in week 4 of TurboFire - another Chalene Johnson program - and love it. I can't wait to start a hybrid of TurboFire & CLX in 2 months!
Good luck0
