Breastfeeding and not losing much weight, help!

So I have an 8 month old who nurses about 4-5 times a day, and is eating solids. I just discovered there was a "breastfeeding" negative calorie calculation in the food database which I haven't been using. I also am eating calories for a 1.5 pound weight loss per week. My exercising consists of the Insanity workouts. So for two weeks in a row I stayed the same and this week I lost a whopping 0.4 pounds. What am I doing wrong? Not consuming enough calories? Anyone else have this issue and resolve it by eating more? I have about 15 pounds + more to lose to be at a healthy weight. It's very frustrating to be following this so religiously and doing such tough work-outs.

Hi! Your diary is locked so none of us can tell whether or not you're eating enough calories. How long ago did you start Insanity? And are you following the nutrition guide? It's not unusual for people to see no change or even a slight gain for the first month of Insanity because our bodies flood sore muscles with water to help them heal during and after a workout. This masks any fat loss that's happening.
Eat enough to fuel your workouts and if you choose to continue with Insanity then you may want to put the scale away for a while and focus on how your body is changing.0 -
First thing, open up your diary... we need to see what you're doing before we can suggest changes.
Second, you're breast-feeding. You don't want to be trying to drop weight fast right now, you'll jack up your milk supply. Plus toxins stored in fat tissue can end up in the milk, so again, dropping body fat quickly while nursing isn't the greatest idea.
From just what you've posted, you may be overdoing the exercise and/or not eating enough... anybody have the link to the current IPOARM thread?
I'm nursing as well (mine is 18 months) and I created a custom negative value food entry based on his nursing habits that also compensates for the carbs, fat, and protein in the milk. I just scaled it back a bit because he's dropped a feed, but believe me, those extra calories help, and I absolutely eat them back!
Losing weight while breastfeeding adds yet another variable to an already complex equation. That 30 pounds in my counter? That's all this year, and my son is 18 months old. So it can be done, you just have to carefully figure out what works for your body.0 -

my experience... I bf for 6 1/2 months... DID NOT LOSE WEIGHT!! nor did i gain weight regardless of my diet or my exercise, in mind i added calories, i subtracted calories, i exercised, i did everything and my body just said *halt* ... i don't know how women lose weight while bf'ing i just couldn't...
My suggestion... just enjoy nursing for now. work on losing weight after you're done if you're planning to quit any time soon. As long as youre not gaining and staying active and eating healthy you should be fine and if you have the healthy habits in place before you quit nursing think of how much easier the weight will drop off.... you only get to nurse for so long... but you have much more time to lose weight.

I've been doing the Insanity work outs for a few months now. I did the 60 day challenge and now just incorporating the workouts into my routine and mixing them up so I don't get bored. The calories recommended for me is 1450 plus whatever I burn with exercise.0

Okay, so that's the calories recommended to you (plus you need a few hundred more for breastfeeding). How many calories are you actually eating? How did you set up your account (if you set it to lose 2 pounds/week that may be too drastic for you)? How are you calculating your calories burned (MFP estimates or HRM)? Are you weighing/measuring your portions?
Undereating can cause plateaus. It did for me and a lot of us have had success by figuring our TDEE and eating about 20% less. http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ If you're not comfortable with that method, I'd recommend setting MFP to lose 1 pound per week, log and eat your exercise calories, and make sure you're accounting for your breastfeeding.
Additionally, bad estimates can also stall weightloss. If you're relying on MFP's estimates for your exercise calories they may be too high. If you're eyeballing your portions that can really affect things. Most people severely underestimate portion sizes.
On top of all this, sometimes bodies just get weird. We'll hold onto water weight because of hormones, exercise, sodium, lack of sleep, stress, etc. Sometimes you can do everything "right" and not see a drop on the scale, especially as you get closer to your goal.0 -
I have it set up for 1.5 pounds per week weight loss. I haven't calculated breastfeeding until today, because I just discovered it on MFP. As far as workouts, I use MFP, because I can't find the strap to my HRM. I try to underestimate my calories burned since I'm not using an HRM, so I subtract the stretching time from total minutes, etc. I feel I do pretty well with portion control. I've made that mistake before and have learned from it. I have a food scale and use other measuring tools most of the time. I will admit to doing the military diet a couple of times which is very calorie restrictive. It started out great but then seemed to do nothing and I felt horrible, so I stopped. That was however, how I was able to lose the first 5 pounds.0
