hiding diary

I've had some trouble with honest tracking and I think it would be best for me to hide my diary for a bit until I regain some confidence... but how to I hide it?? Is it a good idea to hide it or should I just suck it up

I'd suggest sucking it up, haha. It keeps us accountable. I don't have my diary out for the world to see, but I always make it visible to MFP friends to keep me accountable. And if you've had a bad week, don't feel bad. If you're regularly checking out your friend's diaries, you'll notice weeks in there where they fell off the wagon a bit too. It's not a big deal, and we all do it, so you have nothing to be ashamed of!

Though if you do decide you want to change it, you can do it from the iPhone app (that's how I've always changed my settings, idk about desktop) by going to your privacy settings.

It's in your diary settings :)
You just make it private there!

PS No judgement here! We're all trying.

exactly!! you're an adult... you live by the choices you make... its nobody's business unless you want it to be... and if you arent honest it isnt hurting anyone but you...
Im not for judging folks or their diary so do what works best for you...

. Most importantly ,you need to be accountable to yourself to what you are eating. What is the point of using a diary and tracking your eating if you lie to it?

The truth can be painful, but it can also be transformative. Use it to get yourself on track.

If it will get you to log accuratly and honestly, I say hide it. You have to honest with yourself. Yeah, sometimes I feel really guilty about certain things and I think "what will my mfp friends think if I actually log that?" but at the end of the day it's MY diary and I have to be honest with myself so it all gets logged.

One trick I have is that if I'm feeling shame over a particular food choice (I shouldn't, but I do sometimes) is that I'll just quick-add the calories, rather than list it specifically.

You need to do what's best for you, and if you are more comfortable not sharing your food diary with anyone, then that is perfectly fine! You only need to be accountable to yourself, and it's your body and your life! Also not sharing your food diary is not "hiding". It's simply keeping the food intake portion of your weight loss journey private. Nothing wrong with that!

Just go to Settings ==> Diary Settings ==> Mark as Private.

Actually, there are a lot of judgmental people here. I lost 2 friends because of my diary. One said I ate too much, and the other said too little.

Heck, I've named one of my categories "Ooooooops". That way I can keep track of how much I stray more easily. I think it is also helpful to any of my friends reviewing my diary to see where I screwed up without having to look through line by line, if that's what they care to do. Look, my philosophy is that we are human, we have cravings. I live in moderation. You cannot deny yourself things that you really want completely or else you will fail for sure because when you can no longer standing it, instead of eating one or two of whatever it is, you will consume the entire package! You are not doing this to impress any of your friends with your food diary. You are doing this to see what your eating patterns are and to make corrections where necessary.

Oh wow...the day I start losing friends over my food choices is the day I delete all of my friends. haha that's crazy!

Whatever results in honest and consistent tracking is the best choice.

What does it matter who sees it? Nobody is going to email you and say "Oh my god, you idiot, you ate a cheeseburger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Log everything and accurately or you're just lying to yourself.

Some people on here are very judgemental and you just have to see from the view that has answered your question with their questions. I have always hid my diary because I had to keep myself accountable not the other 307 people on my list. I also don't comment on their diets because I really couldn't care less what others eat or have had to tea, its take more energy to keep myself on track. So hide away your diary if must. I did have my diary open once and one of my now ex friends emailed saying that you should have this type of sauce opposed to the one that I wrote down. Put it this way I haven't lost 70lbs by dreaming one night and you will find your own way too. Good luck
