Skin after weight loss???

Hi!
My husband and I have started on this weightloss journey together! He has lost 60 pounds over the last 8 weeks. I have lost about 30 pounds in the last 6 weeks. We were both very overweight to begin with! He has lost enough that the skin on his belly is getting "loose" for lack of a better term!!! Is there anything you can do with this short of skin removal surgery? Will it tighten over time or is this a long term issue?
I currently am not having this issue, but his weight was carried mainly on his belly area, so a 60 pound difference is incredible on his physique! Can't wait until I can see results like I can see on him... But I am so proud of him! He is making tremendous progress!

Don't sweat it. (No pun intended!) Use a great lotion and try not to lose too fast. Time will tell.
And in the end, the weight is gone, he's healthier, it's all good.0 -
Surely you meant months, not weeks?0

Glad that you are getting healthier but that much weight loss in such a short amount of time seems unhealthy. What are you doing?
To answer your question, depending on how long over weight the skin may tighten back up some. A good lotion high in Vit E will help. You could even use Vit E oil.0 -

My husband started counting calories... my heart wasn't in it at that time, so a couple weeks later I had my mind and heart set on it, so I started counting calories as well! I also try to exercise at least 4 times a week. I have had some female health issues for the past several years, which led me to having a hysterectomy about 1 1/2 years ago! I thought that was the end of the world, as I had just turned 31 years old. As it turns out, that is exactly what I needed! I have felt better than ever!!! So, now that I have that behind me, I intend to see this through! I came across MFP and love this site and all of the people. I am 5' 10" and my starting weight was 328.6... I would like to be under 200 at some point, but I realize it is going to take time! I am so happy with the change I have seen in the last 6 weeks! I never thought this was possible. We just drastically changed our diets and I have added some exercise into my days! We used to eat out or eat processed foods ALOT! Now, we rarely eat out and our fridge is full of fresh veggies & fruits and lean meats! My husband works a job that is alot more physically demanding than mine, so I'm sure that is why his weight loss is so huge! And he has always been able to lose quickly. He is 6' 3" and started out at around 370 pounds! I hope we can continue to lose and become healthy! I want to set good examples for our kids and be able to keep up with them, which right now, I cannot do!
Thanks for the tip on the Vit E lotion! We will definitely be trying this! I don't have this problem with loose skin yet... but I know he will be ecstatic to find out he should put lotion on! (He hates it!!! HeHeHe!!!)0 -
Lotion won't do anything. You both need to be on a weightlifting program to avoid losing muscle along with fat. that is the only thing you can do to avoid loose skin. You won't be able to avoid it completely, unless you are some genetic wonder, but you can make your overall appearance less jiggly if you are weight training.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks all for the tips and advice... I would love to be in weight training program... not sure that I can hack it YET, but soon will be able to! Thinking about getting my hubby a home gym for his birthday coming up... I have been thinking we needed one for quite some time, what a great way to get what I want...0
