Is this okay to do...? I feel really guilty.

Starting Tuesday I have changed my eating habits to eating healthier food but I still binge.. Yesterday for dinner I ate a homemade Burrito with cheese and hot sauce. And today my mother bought some hot cheetos but I ate a small bag.Though I have ate generally healthy both days. The thing with me is I feel like ANY junk I eat will ruin my diet and after I eat it I'm just like to myself "what's the point anymore if I just ruined my diet" so I decide to go back to my old habits not caring....
I just really need help I'm so confused, some sites say it's okay to binge, others say eliminate ALL junk.
I just feel sorta bad, I mean I can control how much I eat now but I still feel like eating junk ruins my diet... So tell me, from your experiences what helps cause I really need some.

If it fits in your calorie allowance it's all good. Eating junk food doesn't ruin anything. One thing I've read here that stuck with me was the suggestion that you shouldn't do anything to lose weight that you won't do to maintain it. I'm not giving up chips forever. Or burritos. Or cake, cookies, bacon, pasta, nachos, etc.
Also, eating a burrito or a small bag of chips is not a binge. Relax and consider that the ideas you have about losing weight may not be true. You don't have to suffer, starve, or give up everything you like.0 -
My personal plan is to not eliminate any food in particular. Instead I portion controls and try not to eat things like cake, chips, etc more than a few times a week. And when I do I try to keep it to a single serving. This doesn't always happen and info splurge now and then, after a splurge I know that tomorrow is the day to eat better again and I don't feel guilty about it. I have to allows self some snacks and "bad" food because if I cut out everything unhealthy I would go crazy. But I also noticed now that fresh strawberries or other fruit can satisfy a sugar craving where before I would have chosen the cookies or cake. Do what works for you and don't feel guilty. Remember you want this change to last for life, not just to get the weight off;
Portion control works for me. Just find what works for you and go with it.0 -

AMEN sister! that is exactly the approach I live by.0 -
Sounds like you may be the find of person who needs to have it there as an option in order to avoid indulging too much. How about you write a list of your favourite junk foods and search for either healthier recipe options or healthier brands of that product and moderate how much you eat. Get yourself into a routine of eating healthy items in all of your meals then you can think about removing some less than healthy things. But remember if youre trying to remove something from your diet, replace it with a healthier alternative. Like homemade burritos or lettuce cups instead of fast food, homemade potato/sweet potato chips instead of packet chips etc.. And make sure youre getting enough micronutrients from fruit/veg and enough protein in your diet!
You CAN overcome this ! :flowerforyou:0 -
Well..it's all about what works for you. Calories in and calories out is what matters.0

Don't beat yourself up. We all have days like that. Just pick yourself up dust yourself off and start again.0

Like others say, one burrito and a small bag of cheetos is not a binge. Do not worry about it! Like I always say "One bad Meal will not make you fat. Just like one healthy meal won't make you skinny' If your calories are okay, and it's all in moderation. Your fine!!:flowerforyou:0

What's wrong with a burrito? A homemade one generally has fewer calories and better ingredients than a restaurant one. We have tacos and burritos regularly here as part of a healthy homemade meal plan.
Especially if you use a smaller tortilla and stretch the meat with beans and go easy on the cheese, it can easily fit into your daily allotment of calories.0 -

There are two schools, Ive been to both. I went to OA and cut out all sugar all white flour for 8 months. I lost 80 lbs. I felt great, I felt stable once the initial cravings left me. That was THEN. Eventually I ate sugar again, and several years later I was fatter than EVER.
How I do it now? I eat healthy all week long, sometimes all month long and then..just because I CAN~ I have a treat. I eat a chocolate bar or have a couple slices of pizza. I log it in my journal and I move on. Ive lost about 50 lbs in almost 6 months. So roughly the same amount eating strict as unstrict.
Which way do you think I choose to live the rest of my life?0 -
I don't think you should feel guilty about either of those. If you can fit stuff into your calorie allowance, it's all good. That's great that you're adopting a healthier lifestyle, but there's nothing evil about any food. Just take it in moderation. I still eat chips, ice cream, pizza, chocolate, and things like that. I make it fit into my daily goal and don't feel guilty at all.
Don't be so tough on yourself. A couple of indulgences every once in a while won't make or break anything.0 -
Why don't you try something like 80/20 or 90/10 (80-90% of your calories from healthy foods, and 10-20% from other foods)? That way you are still in charge of your eating, with a built in allowance for treats that you do not have to feel guilty about.
For me, insisting that my food intake be "perfect" or I might as well not even try was a recipe for failure.
Look at it this way...would you rather be at goal weight eating a bag of chips daily, or yo-yoing up and down around your current weight by trying to be perfect then gaining it all back when you can't maintain that standard and give up?
Try tiny changes that you can maintain.0
