Too fat to fit?

Hello,
Is anyone else here someone who sometimes finds themselves too fat to fit many aspects of every day life? I mean like, seating on transport, seating in theatres/cinemas etc, sporting/safety equipment you may find yourself having to use in some situation... all things like this.

How do you deal with it? Do you ever get the corage to speak to staff about your problem. Do you find them kind and helpful?

I ask specifically because I am thinking of contacting a cinema about if there is any provision for people who do not fit one seat. Do you think it is a good idea or not? I have previously done this at a theatre, they were very helpful and let me buy 2 seats, and the armrest was taken off. I do not know if all places able to do this though.

Thank you xx

As far as movie theaters go, I know there are ones that have armrests that move up. DH and I like to make a couch to snuggle on when we are watching a movie in one of those (and nothing special has to be done). Wehrenberg is the theater we go to that has that.

Never had to do this though probably should have done & thrown off a ride at a park for not fitting!!

I must confess that when I was at my biggest I just did not do this sort of stuff. My life was restricted & this is why I decided to do something about the weight! Not needing a seat belt extension for the plane to Canada was my biggest joy to date! That & not seeing those frightened faces when I get on a bus of train & folk were worried I would sit next to them!!

Solve the problem a different way. If you are uncomfortable in your seat, change the size of the bottom!!

I can't live a restircted life, I can't wait around for some better future, the good times is now :) If it takes having some awkward conversaions, so be it. I find most customer service people are very nice! Here to a great present and future!

I can't see why places should fit around peoples inability to lose weight or how fat people somehow think the world owes them & should accommodate their size.

You say you can't wait around for some better future? Then what on earth are you doing here? Either you are waiting to get thinner & healthier by hard work like everyone else or just waiting for it to happen 'one day'.

When I was fat I never dared ask....being fat was my problem & the only way to fix the problem was to fix being fat. I never once expected anything to be removed or made bigger because of my own being fat.

Idk, it is not about huge accomdations; often a little kindness, creative thinking and tolerance from both sides, solutions can be found. It is not about people not being bothered to lose weight. I am very bothered to lose weight, I didn't lose 50lbs(so far!) without considerable effort. But what if I wanted to go to the cinema right now? I don't hink I should ahve to wait months and months. Being fat isn't a crime to be punished. I am a very reasonable person, I do not expect others to bow to my needs, but often there are ways we can all work out. Youmight think it is a vitrue that you waited to be thin to start having fun, but I don't see it as a virtue.I don't 'expect' people to remove things (such as armrests!!), but I don't think it is bad to ask. Why would it be? I am always very reasonable about paying any extra needed. Customer service people is there to help, and helpful they are, generally!
  • I am so sorry for the lack of empathy / reasonable discussion on this thread. I do not know the answers to your questions, but I love that you are willing to take life by the horns and not feel that you should closet yourself out of shame. ANY of us may die tomorrow, why spend the next 5 years hiding away sulking about life? Good for you. And good for you for stepping up and and working to make changes. This journey isn't for sissies!

Anyway, I sent you a friend request.

Aww, thank you. I was really looking for a little constructive advice, because it is only recently myself I got the courage to try and figure these things out (ironically, at the same time as I am actually losing weight). I kow some people feel too much shame or whatever and I am lucky not to be burdened with that. But yes, if anyone has any helpful words, please let me know... I can't be the only obese person here surely, so I thought it would be a suitable place to ask this.

If they don't, they don't necessarily need to say anything. I am letting positivity in my life!
