Cheat day?

Okay - it's been about 6 &1/2 months since I started this. I am seriously considering a CHEAT day. I have been very strict about not ever going over my calories - period! Even if I got close - I didn't go over. I feel like I now deserve one cheat day - also I want to see if I am now strong enough to cheat a bit and get right back on my plan, I am thinking about it............ maybe pizza.............

Congrats on sticking to the plan! I'd say have a little something but don't overboard. A slice or two of pizza won't kill your progress.0

I'm too scared to go oin a cheat day or even a cheat meal I am so addicted to certain things that if i do have a taste, it will trigger that feeling of needing more. so its not worth it.
A lot of people who say "diets dont work" have a cheat day and then they NEVER GO BACK and gain back all the weight they lost. I do not recommend you eating that pizza.
Instead you would try to focus on eating healthy and enjoying that and that way you never have to feel the need to cheat.
I think IF you are gonna "cheat" then think about something that is healthy that would taste sinfully delish but not be so bad, like maybe fruit with some creamy stuff on it, might make you feel like your eating ice cream sundae.
Or maybe a bowl of Special K with red berries and milk might make you feel like your enjoying a treat. I know it sounds maybe lame, but after eating healthy, that cereal tastes good to me.. and this is coming from someone who is a fudge-a-holic, dessert-a-holic.
I would not risk it, I couldn't stop at just one cheat... and then all the progress i have made, no.. no... it would be too hard to recover from.0 -
So I have been changing my lifestyle for the past 4 months or so. I have yet to have a cheat day. However tonight I am rewarding myself for the first time since I have started by going to the melting pot with my boy friend. I started out being very nervous and feeling guilty about having a cheat day. However, with the support of others on MFP I was able to change my mindset. I am now having a "reward meal" instead of a "cheat day". I have cut back a great deal on my calorie consumption throughout the day (still eating throughout the day but vey healthy meals of veggies and protein) and worked out this morning. I plan on enjoying my evening and then getting right back on track tomorrow. Eatin poorly all day would have made me feel horrible both mentally and physically but a meal to reward myself is a nice treat and will not take me off track. So my suggestion is to have a reward meal not an all day cheat feast. Good luck and congrats on your journey so far!0

Cheat meal or free meal, yes. They are a great thing to look forward to and do great things for ones mindset. I am not a fan of a whole day because it could do more damage than good if you go too crazy.0

Everybody is different. I have had really bad "cheat days" and get back on track the very next day. If it's something you find yourself thinking about a lot, in my opinion it would be worth a shot. You're ultimately the one who has the power to get back on track or not Maybe pick one small thing and try to plan a day where you incorporate that into what you'd normally eat while dieting. Good luck with whatever you do! I think everyone deserves a little treat sometimes.0

i can honestly say that obsessing over food is not the way to live. i've been there done that (still doing it) you only live once don't be so hard on yourself.
if i ate something bad i would end up crying in the shower and contemplating trowing it up.
do not obsess, have a healthy change in lifestyle and have you cheat when you feel the need to and the next day up your workouts and cardio and enjoy your life!
its not fair to go out with friends and watch them polish off desserts and you sit with a long face saying "i'm on a diet"
whatever you've chosen to be healthy and eat in moderation.
it's taking me a while but with the help of family and my boyfriend my relationship with food is getting better.
please just relax and eat your cheat!0 -
To have not gone over for all that time is fantastic, and a darn site better than me! For me, if I want a cheat meal, I have it and work on getting the weekly average in line. Having said that, sometimes sciatic events make even that hard. For those that talk about one cheat day meaning they fall off the wagon completely, only you can decide if you fall into that category. Personal I don't. I would say enjoy the meal with pizza, garlic bread, and a big sticky pudding. You deserve it!0

Be prepared to get sick if you overdo it. The first time I ate pizza after a long break from it, I got so excited I ate about 4 slices. I was SICK AS A DOG all night. It was like there was this HUGE dough ball in my stomach all night ( and it felt like that because there was!!!) so I recommend having a treat, even if its pizza, remember a slice or two is enough!0 -
I have a cheat day every Saturday where I eat upto 4000 calories and its not done my weightloss any harm, go for it ????0

I am so impressed you have gone this far without going over your calories for even one day?! WOW!!! I go over mine at least once or twice a week hahaha!!
I don't take issue with cheat days, in fact over Christmas week and my birthday week both I upped to maintenance calories and feasted a bit! Then I had a big cheat day about a month ago when I was in a plateau, and it actually did seem to help!
If you can go 6 1/2 months without going over I think you can handle it and deserve a reward day! Just don't eat so much that you feel icky the next day, that can happen if you've been good for so long.0 -

Theres no way I could do a whole day!!! What Ive learned is un healthy foods make me feel sick! A cheat MEAL is sufficient for me to feel like a part of the human race now. After all, I have one body, I want to feed it THE BEST and therefore FEEL GREAT!0 -
I have always been "afraid" of cheat days, that I will fall off the wagon, but I hear it's actually good for you to have a cheat day-not sure I believe it or not though....0

I myself do a cheat meal once every week. I try to plan ahead on it just so I can stay within my caalories and such. It's almost like I'm not cheating because even tho I'm eating what I want, i'm eating junk without the long term penalties. This is someone who's lost approx. 45lbs in 10 weeks. One meal won't hurt. I too am afraid to cheat the enitre day tho.0

Just remember moderation. Pizza is good...just not too much. Your body may not react well to it. I had that happen and was sick all night and most of the next day. I'm sure it was just the fact I had been eating much "cleaner" and my body did not know what to do with all the grease.
Now I can have a slice or two and have no problems. I just do it about once a month.0
