Motivation and goal question

Question. I've been doing this now for 8 weeks, and I've lost 12.6 pounds. Very happy about that. So, today, Myfitnesspal asked me if I wanted to recalculate my goals? That was a first, and I wasn't sure how to answer, but I said yes, and it just lowered my daily calories by 60. Is that what I want? What are the benefits of letting it recalculate vs. keeping the original goals? I have a lot more to lose, so I can't see dropping my caloric intake by 60 calories every 10 or so pounds. Advice?

After awhile you have to drop cals. The lighter you get, the less cals you need.

Yes. Always recalculate your Goals when asked. Your calorie needs change every 10 pounds with this tool.

However, as you get closer to Goal, you should also reset your weekly loss goal. Use this as a guideline:

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and

If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.

As you adjust these weight loss goals, you will get more calories, as you lose weight, you get less. They meet in the middle at your goal weight if you do this correctly - i.e., the calories will be within 200 of your Maintenance calories if your calculations and goals are reasonably correct.

If you hit a plateau (a month at the same weight), do some research on your TDEE and do some manual calculations to double-check your numbers.

I'm sorry. I don't know where to look about auto or manual settings. If you can point me in the right direction, I'll gladly check for you.
