Not That New, But Finally Introducing Myself

Hi All,

I've been on the site on and off for over a year. I'm a 29 year old male and have been struggling with my weight since I was 13. Last July I lost 20 lbs doing the Whole30. I used MFP to track my food, water and weight. I've since gained the weight back and am near my all-time high of 247 (currently at 244). In a month I have a family gathering so I want to try to drop some weight by then. I'd love to see 20 lbs come off, but noticeable changes are more important than specific metrics.

My plan is to do the Whole30 (which I started today), up my walking to 15,000 steps (up from about 4,000), and start running. I'll also try to keep my calorie level at 1200, but if I stay on the Whole30 I will be in deficit no matter what. It's a bit ambitious, but I can do it.

Feel free to comment if you want to support me. I find the message boards a bit overwhelming (since there is so much content), but I plan to update this thread daily.

Good luck to everyone trying to achieve a better life over the summer!

since you'll be at 1200 cals, i would recommend not drinking any beverages with calories. just stick with water, coffee, tea.

and dont waste your limited calories on empty cals (cookies, cakes, and the likes), but stick with foods that are going to keep you full.

you can easily drop at least 10 lbs in a month when first starting out.

after you've had your family get together, change plans to something not so drastic, 1200 for a man is really low.

    good luck

Hello, Welcome to the boards. I would like to nicey suggest that you find a diet\ lifestyle that you can stick with long term. The fact that you gained the weight back shows its not something you can probably stick with long term. I love your plans for working more. It sounds like a nice start to leading a more active lifestyle.
My advice would be set your loss here to 1 lb a week or two a week if you insist and follow the calories that mfp gives you. Make sure you eat some of the burned calories back.
Take your time and the weight loss will come off. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I won't be drinking anything with calories (just water and green tea). I'm not wedded to 1200 calories, but that was fine last year on the Whole30. Getting rid of sugar, grains, dairy, and soy helps cut out lots of calories. I'll focus my eating on vegetables, lean meats, eggs, and nuts.

Hi, I've not heard of Whole30, but it seems interesting. I've started trying to eat fresher ingredients and lean foods. I'm the opposite, and struggle to eat 1200 calories a day so I need to up my food intake. I wish you luck and be keen to offer support and find out more as you follow Whole30. I'm always looking for others to encourage and get support too. :)
