A matter of belief. Help please.

I have been overwieght/obese for over 30 years. I have lost 42lbs so far but I know I struggle with my belief as I have been on diets for years. I know that this is a lifestyle change but it would help my belief if I knew that someone who had struggled with lifelong obesity had finally got to their goal or at least is nearly to their goal. I know that this is a hurdle that mentally I have to overcome.

Thanks

Charlotte.

Mummoid, sometimes we live with a problem or challenge for so long that it becomes integrated into our sense of self, and that can make it hard to change even if that change is going to be for the good. I would encourage you to not regard weight as something essential about you - it is a transitory condition. You are letting that go now, and you will be successful too, because you have the discipline to make the changes, and because you are letting that old sense of self go. Hang in thee.

Yeah, and sometimes it's not just personal history but family history as well that makes it seem like it's just not possible. One thing I love about MFP, there are so many inspiring success stories and for many of them you can see it took years of effort. So it might not be three months, or six months. But in the meantime you can celebrate and take strength from what you've already accomplished - which is huge!

You know your profile pic sorta says it all :-)
